womens football

Well it has to be discussed seeing as the womens world cup is on and England are doing ok so far (sound familiar lol!) Here's what Val thinks, feel free to chime in with your thoughts and comments. So, I work at night sometimes and when I get home late, which is varied but say 11-12 midnight for example, I usually record football matches or Speedway for a bit of late night, early morning entertainment see. Then I chill out with a bevvie and watch whatever I have recorded cos there's not much more i can do at that time. Now lately in the absence of the football season and, between my speedway meetings, I've set the womens world cup on auto record and watched a fair few matches. I think its fair to say, without causing a furore, that obviously its not as good as mens football. In all aspects of the game it doesn't come up to the levels that our male counterparts produce. All in all, it seems more like watching youth teams play no disrespect intended. However this is a relatively new sport for women and its equally obvious they are fine, competitive athletes working really hard at this sport and you cannot fault their endeavour and atittude and I for one cannot knock any person for choosing a positive, creative way to live their lives. I think we could do with a lot more of that in life as it goes. I must also say that theirs some seriously good eye candy on the pitch as well Wink and so many fine ponytails lol! Sorry girls I couldn't resist that oneWink  Now please don't have a go ladies, I'm sure you watch mens football from an added eye candy perspective to? Wink  Where the hell am I going with this? Ah, yes. I am going to make one very notable point and that is....... SPITTING!
Unless i'm deluded or the cameras are more careful with their coverage? I haven't seen one of these girls spit yet? Not a single one. So why is that? I loathe spitting its becoming more and more endemic and I'm sick of people spitting in front of me, behind me, wherever, when I'm out and about. Its nasty and it spreads disease and the reason I hate it so much is because my Mum was a nurse before she retired and in her thirties she caught TB on the ward she was working on. Its well documented that TB is transferred through saliva. As a result of the TB my mum had her entire lung removed and now suffers from serious breathing difficulties in her twilight years and it hurts me to see her struggle. So to round this odd little thread off I'd like to commend the women footballers for managing to play out there games to the best and height of their ability without feeling the need to drain their oral and nasal cavities onto the pitch like so many male players do. I hope that's one footballing tradition that doesn't catch on in the ladies version. Right that's it. Over to you folks.....?

The other evening I was waiting for the bus. There was an (Apx) 18 yr old sat on the railings also waiting. In the 15 minutes or so we were there he must have spat 200 times. He had a pool of saliva in front of him. Disgusting habit and as you say unhygienic.I was glad when he caught a different bus to me. I could just imagine him doing on the bus too. No consideration for anyone else. There was a time I would have taken him to task about it..... Nowadays discretion is the better part of valour. DD Thumb down Thumb down

I applaud Women's football as much as I do any sport where the commitment is there alongside the spirit of fair play; Rugby, Golf, Cricket etc Because eventually Men's football will have to deal with all of its problems.

I played football in the streets as a kid, I played (Striker) at infants school, cubs, Junior school, scouts and secondary school. Plus I played for my village and later town football teams and then have spent years going go matches and dealing with the stresses of watching a team win or lose, get promoted or relegated.

Like most on here, I grew up and have lived all my life loving football. But I cry in shame with what is happening to it at the moment. Greed, cheating, disrespect for the fans and disinterest in playing for your country.

Valpayne, I have watched a few games and hadn't noticed the lack of spitting until you mentioned it. If this is the case then why do the men do it?? I never played sport at any decent level so have always thought it was just about keeping the airways clear during exercise but is there more to it?? I have noticed one thing though, a lot of the women players seems to be chewing gum while playing, surely that is a choking hazard if you take a hard knock or end up getting floored?? I always thought chewing while playing was banned??

Yes I've seen this kind of thing also I don't know if its pure ignorance or trying to appear hard but its really disgusting. You're right not to get involved though you just don't know what could happen as you say. Theres also a cultural thing as well but like I said it doesn't help when there is so much football on TV and kids grow up thinking it's normal Sad

Well said Stairs I also played in the streets for my school and local team and got as far as training for Mile Oak for a few weeks before a pursuit of a musical career took me to London. I remember the training for a semi pro team being a big step up from school football and I remember getting a very dry mouth but still didn't need to spit I just enjoyed a pint of orange and lemonade after training which surprisingly was more welcome than a pint of beer lol!

Hey Owl I really don't know what its all about. I actually have asthma and rhinitis so breathing in itself through my nose is troublesome and exercise these days is limited to long walks lol! But even then I end up breathing through my mouth which is frustrating.

Sadly since posting this I watched the england canada quarter final last night and am sad to report despite the great scoreline equally it was 2-1 to England in the spitting competition Sad

So missing my footy just getting strapped in to watch.  Seriously I would probably watch mid season, not that the football is better or worse, just different.  Keep your eye on Lucy Bronze (not that type of eye!!) two cracking goals in England's last two games (including a 20 yarder into the top corner), not bad for a right back.

Laugh you English! You do brilliantly when under the radar, then the press ramp it up and you bottle it, quality entertainment. At least the women are better than your men mind.
