The premier league and football league fixtures come out at 9am tomorrow, so we may as well have a thread for who we'd like and if we're happy with who we get.

I'd personally like a promoted team (not Bournemouth really though) or Newcastle. I want to go on the first day and I don't know how many other games I'll be able to get to this season.

I want to play at 3pm Saturday to start the season so no big teams please and I'd much prefer to be at home (so I can go and I think it's better to start the season at home.)

I'd like to see us play one of the promoted teams but they might still be riding on a high from promotion so they could be a danger, Newcastle would be interesting and Sunderland (again) would probably give us a decent chance of a result.

Hopefully we'll have a good start like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCz_Kcadqasand we'll have signed a new striker who'll do a Lukaku.

The main priority is not to get humiliated like that 6-0(?) against Chelsea a few years ago.

Have we had any other memorable first days? (I'm looking at the older members really here)

Hopefully we won't have any runs with only tough fixtures and our run in will be nicer than the sseason just gone (it worked out ok in the end though Big Grin ).

In general, we're pretty notorious for doing badly in the first game, no matter what division we're in or who we're playing. Our record for the last twenty years (going backwards) has been DLWLLDLLWDDLLLLDDWL. Three opening day wins in two decades is a bit of a shocker.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind starting on the road, maybe even to one of the big teams; get it out of the way nice and early, and there's even a chance you can catch them napping so early in the season.

We seem to have a decent chance of surprising them at any point of the season recently Whistle but yes anyone with a lot of new signings should be a bit more vulnerable at the start.

Anyone know Pulis' record at Stoke for strong/weak starts?

As Ska'd has already said not too many over the years.

How about 20 August 1977 - WBA 3  Chelsea 0  {T Brown(2), Cross}

OR

21 August 1965               - WBA 3    West Ham 0  { Clark (2) Astle}

So perhaps a home game against a London side would give us a chance Whistle

Pretty good set of fixtures really compared to last season. Liverpool as last game of season should not be a problem as our fate (one way or the other) will have been sealed by then.

A fast, new squad, start v Man City is not too much of a concern
