Rangers: Bell; Foster, McCulloch, Zaliukas, Wallace; Law, Vuckic, Murdoch, Ferguson; Boyd, Miller.
Subs: Simonsen, Smith, Mohsni, Clark, Crawford, Shiels, Walsh.

A 442 formation, Ferguson and Walsh to get crosses in for Miller and Boyd.

Don't think much thought has gone into our defensive set up, suppose it shouldn't be an issue - we have to score goals. However, going gung-ho will be playing right into Motherwell's hands. We can't afford to be naïve here.

Good to see Shane Ferguson getting a start, that will give Lee Wallace more time for his defensive duties ... if needed !

Awful first half, no control or composure at all.

I'd forgotten that Thompson was the ref today, he's also been f*cking awful. He just referees according to whatever the home crowd shouts for. The Pearson booking/red card non-decision - given McCulloch and Murdoch's later bookings, stands out as just one particularly baffling incident.

When are we going to get some fairness from referees?

Another season in the Championship then. It'll be interesting to see what changes in the summer in terms of pretty much everything. We need a scouting system, we need a mostly new squad, we probably need a new manager as I think McCall has had his chance and not really done enough. Behind those basics we need to finally put in place a whole new structure to facilitate them, and to try to ensure that the right decisions are made by the right people in future. All credit to Motherwell though for doing the most important thing, and the thing we are most fundamentally lacking, and that's the ability to get things right on the park.

Worth noting that both the crucial goals in this tie have come about because the attacker has taken a chance - gambled in dangerous areas - and has benefitted from it.

Also worth noting their keeper has had f*ck all to do in both legs.

Massive clear out required now, including the manager.

We've just not been good enough in front of goal. A team has to make something of at least some of the half chances that come their way and we have done nothing with a large number of opportunities.

Plaudits to Motherwell, who have made the best of the chances that have come their way - even if a lot of luck in 3 of their goals.

Now we have a summer of wonder: who will be wearing a Rangers strip next season and who will be managing the team?

Can't wait til McCoist comes out to tell us he'd have taken us up. It might be soon or it might be a few years down the line, but he will come out with it eventually.  Cry

The one thing that's really disappointed me from McCall in the Motherwell games is the predictability of his team. We didn't have a great variety of options, but we did have some. Walsh for example made a great impact when he came into the team, but he's been more or less bombed out in the playoffs. Instead we've gone for a predictable shape without natural wingers and did nothing as far as I could see tactically to offer any surprises to Motherwell. We even telegraphed the fact Boyd was going to be playing at least a day in advance, giving them ample time to prepare for our forward line up. I'm normally a big fan of stability and consistency in a side, but only when it provides results consistently, and McCall hasn't done that at any stage. Mixing things up more would have been far more advantageous to us in my opinion. The defence has, utterly predictably, failed us badly, but that's one thing I can't hold McCall accountable for. It's been shambolic all season and he's still got more or less the same personnel McCoist had. That has to be the first area targeted for new signings, although I'm sure I said the same thing a year ago and although McGregor has been an improvement the unit as a whole hasn't done any better.
