Its been a little bit of an up and down year. one manager leaving after the first game, the new one coming in after the transfer window shuts, the team finds some form and looks like dark horses for a playoff birth then weeks later their out of form and look like relegation fodder.

But now its over or nearly over, well the home games at least and we get to welcome back a former superstar of ours to the john smiths in the process, simon eastwood may be playing in goal for rovers, remember him? He was going to be a good goalkeeper but for glass ankles, thus allowing alex smithies a look in. Oh and theres someone called jordan, surname is a greek island, crete i think?

Recent results have been positive for town, or kind of positive, better than some results we've had anyway. Most recent a 4-4 goal fest against dierby, nice to know that the guys know where the goal is, oscar found a good pair of boots and hudson used that nogging of his. Also a good result away at forest and 90 minutes of nothing spectacular against brighton can be thrown into the mix. But it seems that there are positive signs for town going into next season, be interesting to see what we bring in too. Yay its nearly that time now!!

As for the visitors, theyve had a mixed bag of a season, they sit 9th and cant go any higher, for all the playing quality they have you would expect them to be higher, but injuries and debatable team selections may have hindered them. Although they didnt do too bad in the facup taking liverpool to a replay, Liverpool then lost to aston villa and i have a feeling tim sherwood once played for blackburn?

Last time out rovers beat miwaw 2-0, Gestede who has been a big player for them season got on the scoresheet with jocky ending the game with a goal in the final minutes. Other than that victory they have enjoyed drawing, playing out a 3-3 with forest for one example.

Saturday sees town offering tickets for a fiver, which will hopefully see a few more fans get down and create a better atmosphere, not hard seeing as we were voted 19th or something, so if you can get away from the other half, then get down and make the most of it. Maybe even bring them with you?

I would try and predict powells team, but i dont see any reason for change. Vaughan is back fit so he will be involved, maybe a few of the youngster will be in the squad but i somewhat doubt they will play.

Anyway over to you guys, what you think?

Really pleased to see Simon Eastwood doing well. Thought his career was over when Halifax released him.
And he nearly scored a spectacular goal against Liverpool.

The Bradford Fire

(Nearly put this in my thread last week, but I think more appropriate in here. Hope you don't mind this mini-hijack of your thread jjamez.)

This weekend is the 30th anniversary of when 56 fellow football supporters lost their lives in the fire at Valley Parade. There will be a minutes silence at all the games in the Premiership and the Football League this weekend in memory of those that didn't go home again after the match against Lincoln City.

The North Stand Loyal started a Just Giving page to raise funds for a commemorative banner Just Giving Page (or https://www.justgiving.com/Huddersfield-...upporters/ if the link doesn't work) that will be on display at the match. It was almost immediately paid for by two individuals so all the donations will go to the Burns Unit at Bradford University, which was set up in the wake of the Bradford Fire.

It had raised close to £3,800 the last time I checked, so well done to all who have contributed. As it says on the Just Giving Page ...

"Any donations made to this worthwhile cause would be greatly appreciated."

Back to the match, we'll need to watch Gestede and Rhodes if they play them. Nothing on for either side really other than points and pride but whether it's a fiver in in or not, I want to see us start with a full squad and a full on effort to win. That's why I bought my season ticket and why I travel up for these games. Throw some kids on the bench for the second half if you like but get on top first. The last few matches between us that I've watched have been a bit dreary so no real reason for both sides to settle for a point from the off.

Was at a Town home match the day of the Bradford fire. Heard a bloke next to me saying there had been a fire and a couple of people were dead.
No idea of the extent of the disaster until much later on. Horrible scenes I hope we will never see again.

Great thread jjamez, would love a win to finish home games for a season but reckon it'll be 2-2 and rhodes will score both. It sounds harsh but everyone bangs on about hillsborough all the time the bradford fire barely gets mentioned especially by broadcasters. Glad it's given the respect and attention it deserves.

And we get the pleasure of hosting L***ds when the minutes silence for the tragic events at Bradford will be held!! What are the chances of them staying quiet for a full minute??

Shep, we played Pompey and they had the Cowshed that day, they still were in with a chance of promotion. They won 2-0 but still didn't win promotion, I'm sure Vince Hilaire scored for em too. Incidentally, this is the only time I've ever known the season run over, as we played Sheffield United midweek in our final game.

I don't buy into the conspiracy theory over the fire, that it was intentional. The saddest thing for me is that the club were continually warned over the accumulation of litter, coupled with the wooden stand and did bugger all about it, it was only a matter if time before it went up, it could have happened at any game that season. I have a book by Simon Inglis, on English football grounds, published the year before the fire, to which Inglis offers prophetic warning about the litter and the wooden stand.
