Yesterday .A Few Thoughts
#1
Obviously a much improved performance in fact id say one of the best of the season .Our dominance was not to be understated and I don't know where the BBC got 50-50 possession stats from.
Key factors were the return of Robbo and Banks coming back to form.I thought Lavery had his best game for us and reminds of Doyle in his early times with us .I hope he stays and develops along similar lines .
The confidence in the boys grew as the game went on and I cant remember Tommy having such a quiet game and I think Evo and Hirdy wont have had an easy game as this many times ,such was our dominance.Harrison came on and made an impression but he needs a goal.
Fleetwood were mardy and quite cynical, personified by their manager .I got the impression they were feeling sorry for themselves and hard done to but to be honest the ref got most decisions right.
It was a difficult to pick a MOTM but for me Banks shaded it followed closely by Darikwa and Roberts .I like Banks and always felt he has a talented right foot , some of his dead ball kicks were very dangerous, whipped in with pace as for the second goal.
Lets enjoy this because we have a very difficult game on Tuesday and those 'fans' who take some sort of perverse pleasure in seeing us lose will be wringing their hands in anticipation .Id take a draw now and be very happy.

Great comments. Like everyone else I've been very disappointed with Banks this season, because last season he showed such promise. I hope, with my cynical hat on, his return to form has nothing to do with the retained list.

Because I always look at the possession stats I have to say they are often at odds with the impression of every report I read and excerpt that I watch. I tend to look at them now in conjunction with shots stats on the simple grounds that, even if accurately-assessed possession without shots won't get you anywhere.

MKD battering Coventry without any reward has made Tuesday even tougher, but at least we're travelling with a win under our belts ...... and not another defeat. A draw would be a great result.

As to Lavery, and I'm Mr Anti-Loan, I did think when we signed him that it wasn't the random-looking move by the club that has often characterised us in the past, but an attempt to replace the attributes Doyle possessed. If he weren't wanted at Wednesday (and they do seem happy to be loaning out strikers, both gaolbirds and goalscorers) then he could re-build his career with us.

Great game and I would have put Tendayi as MOM closely followed by Hird. Best I have seen Tendayi play for months and he even managed to find our own players with his passes.
Fleetwood were just plain dirty and deserved everything they got. The ref got most things spot on but in all honesty I don't know how they ended up with 10 men on the pitch. They should have had at least 1 more sent off and 2 more bookings.
Fancy our chances on Tuesday and that would certainly put us back in the playoff mix. Heres hoping.

You don't half damn Tendayi with faint praise Dancing. Tommy Lee is the only other player who has played every game for us this season. The guy may well be playing his second or third favourite position. He does it week in week out with boundless energy. He is always a problem for the opposition. He sometimes gives the ball away ....... but the only Chesterfield full backs I can ever remember who I thought really could pass were Dan Gray and Brian Scrimgeour, who both suffered from a chronic lack of pace. My only issue with Darikwa is that even from full back he should be scoring us some goals - he should remember his youth as a centre forward and get it in that onion bag.

I forgot Gerry Sears, he was class, he could pass.

Duffy's gone back to Birmingham and we've extended Lavery's loan till the end of the season.

What about O'Neil Dev, solid quick and just got on with it. Hewitt likewise.
Have always said Tendayi has a good player in there but just doesn't seem to show it on a regular basis. He cant cross so defenders now know that sooner or later he is going to cut inside, put an extra man there and attack is suddenly turned into defence. I watch it week after week and he doesn't seem to learn running into trouble time and time again. Then every so often he puts in a performance like he did Saturday and you can well believe the interest he had from Everton = allegedly. Unfortunately his good performances come along with the blue moon.

Jamie was a good player and a lovely lad, but a passer? Not the worst, but far from the best. A runner, a worker, full of guts , decent shot even .......

O'Neill pulled a decent pint, played the same ball every time, but at least he kept it in play which was more than you could say for Ken Burton who could give the oppostion a throw-in out of a clear blue sky.

Darikwa's a proper athlete and he beats players. The one thing I'll admit is that when he works inside, which is absolutely the right thing for him to do, because outside creates us next to nothing without a big centre forward, is that he needs to grow the confidence to shoot ...... so defence and keeper are facing three options, shot, cross and lay-off pass ......

Personally I think Darikwa is in his best position.Ive said it all along. Also he must be one of the fittest footballers around .I would pick him over Talbot any day and I like Talbot. Ok he has his faults but that's why he's at this level and he is still at an age where he can improve.

I was unfair about O'Neill he did have one quite sweet foot ... but milk turned faster.

I think on the danger he creates and the energy he displays Darikwa ought to play further forward (in front of Talbot), but if he can't get himself on the scoresheet then it has to be full-back where goals are an added extra. And you'd be right Pooch.

He's the one player we've got who could be a match-winner at a higher level. In my opinion. But I tend to judge on the positive contributions a player makes, and not be horrified by errors unless they end up in the back of our net.

Winning goal last night, cross comes in from TD, still running after 90. That's why, despite his self-doubts, he'd be a hit at least one level up, if not two.
