August is here. The season is nearly upon us.

It seems to me that we are too small to continue on here. Matt is young and must have a life to live. Salts went on holiday, hope he is okay. Dancing is in Spain if not imprisoned in a caravan in Leek, and me I'm old and unable to get myself together to leave Devon ..........

I'll keep accessing Huddersfield's pages taking part in Snoots competitions, but that is it. It has been great.

Try sharing some of your posts on other social media platforms. I do with a Facebook group. We did get some new membership from it, but not many. It's worth a try.

It's good to talk with everyone on here even if infrequently. I will be watching every game and will make the odd comment. Am sure Matt and SGB will pop in now and again once the season starts in earnest.
Let's hope we get off to a good start next week and who knows what the season will bring.

If I feel that I have some interesting (?) to say, I`ll post it. If I don`t, I woin`t. That doesn`t mean that I`ve lost interest, though. I`ll be going along to the games when I can and I`ll certainly be watching all of the televised games.

Like SGB I haven't lost interest, I just decided to have a break in the off season and was following the cricket, General Election, Euro's etc. There hasn't been much news over the summer other than we've signed a few new additions to the team.

Although I'm not a fan of this new Sky thing where they will be putting matches on each week for Championship, L1, L2. It means we kick off at funny times a bit like the first home game against Swindon on a Friday night at 8pm. Also the 1866 Sport commentary which was free to listen to while we were in the National League is now £45 for the season. You have can listen to all the build up for free but once the match starts it will be blocked I guess unless you have subscribed.

Sky TV has a lot to answer for. Kick off times this weekend are all over the place.

Look, the real trouble is the site needs some oomph to interest new users. Stairs has done a great job keeping Babble going, but it must stretch him financially just for the site to remain the same. And it needs a change of format at its heart to drag in people who might want to chat to three quite old blokes and one quite young one. It needs something worthy of interest on other social media. We have good friends on here, but it is a bit like a nice book group meeting every Tuesday for a glass of wine and a failed assault on Finnegan's Wake.

Somehow my every return to this welcoming, familiar site reminds me of my own failure to escape Devon. Of course I like my friends on here and miss them in the close season, but I also can't escape the feeling that last season Chesterfield achieved everything I wanted and I feel like Captain Kirk beaming down to a new planet and finding nothing remarkable about it at all ........

Id prefer a drink and chat with a few friends rather than have to endure some boring farts who think they know better than us.
Even if they do who the hell wants to be proven wrong week in week out?

Joking aside a few more wouldn't go amiss but they would need vetting first.

Errrr perhaps me, you and Salts. I'm 72 and Salts was a couple of years above me at school. Unless going to school in South Africa has the same anti-ageing effect as heading into space you seem to match the template.

Ok only by a bit (71 actually) but still my anti aging cream works a treat when I don't sweat it off.
Musk might have been born in South Africa and it probably explains why he's a racist but I wish he'd get in one of his toy rockets and head off for Mars. Too much dope fogging his brain for him to be relevant anymore.
His kids all seem to have a love hate relationship with him without the love. Didn't realise he'd put it about so much - is it 8? You need to be a millionaire to pay the child maintenance.
