Hibs v St Johnstone - Saturday 23 September
#1
Nick Montgomery gets his first game in charge at home on Saturday against the Perth Saints, who are currently languishing at the foot of the table. That doesn't mean it will be an easy game for Hibs, as we are only 2 points ahead of them. It sees the start of a busy week at Easter Road with 3 home games coming up.

I would imagine it'll be the same starting line-up and substitutes as last week, hopefully with a better outcome. Any opposition side will know our weaknesses and will be geared up to take advantage. I'm sure Montgomery will want to see more control and composure if we need to see the game out. I'll be disappointed if we don't win the 2 league games this week to get us quickly climbing the table.

"I’m really excited." said Montgomery on Hibs TV. "I walked around Easter Road when I arrived and visualised a full crowd, so if supporters are watching or reading this let’s try and get 20,000 in there because the boys really need your support. They’ve had a tough start to the season, but hopefully the supporters saw that the boys are really buying in to this; they want to be an exciting team that takes the game to the opposition. We’ve got enough quality to do that and to score goals."

There will be a new entry system coming in for Saturday with front-facing scanners to recognise the QR code on the tickets, so it'll be interesting to see if it works smoothly.

Unfortunately for Nick, 20,000 needs a full South stand and not just 500 (if that) Saints fans. There will be the usual no shows of some season ticket holders so the crowd I think will be around 16k although the official figure may be higher as they always include sold seats irrespective of whether those seats are taken or not. They are certainly not the only club to do this.

What could possibly go wrong with the scanners!!!

I think the burning question for you Hibs fans is , has Montgomery managed to coach the defense to be any better as there is no problem in attack, although today my mate mentioned that Youan may be a doubt?

Think it's exciting times for Hibs but all too often in the past the fans don't take much to start calling for a new manager as soon as a couple of results go against them. Nick Montgomery needs time and at least the January transfer window, so fans need to be patient. Thumb up

As a post script, I was at Edgar Street to watch Herefords game in the FA Cup against Anstey Nomads last week where I was surprised to see Conrad Logan trot out in goal for the visitors. Although Hereford won 2 . 0 the big guy will always be a hero down Easter Road way and I think he has lost some weight Whistle ..........I still remember the day I walked into Hampden in the Cup semi final and saw him warming up............just shows appearances can be deceptive.  Wink

Comfortable enough 2-0 win today, although the usual doubts still linger. At least we seemed to have found out how to hold on to a lead and, in fact, could have extended it. Two really good goals from Miller and Vente re-inforced our attacking options and it could easily have been more.

One of the bright spots to the game saw the introduction of Rory Whittaker in the 70th minute, meaning that he became the youngest ever Hibs' league player. He might have had a goal too, but his shot was blocked, as was Doidge's follow-up.

HB - good to hear that the roly-poly goalie is still playing.

Is it too early to be feeling really positive about the new manager ?

Probably. But i like the cut of his jib already. After a ropey start we settled down and played well 2nd half, you can tell there is an actual gameplan now. We are playing things out from the back a lot more for a start.

Looks like Big Ange has invited him down to tottenham for a day, Looks like they share a similar philosophy on the game.
