Manchester United academy graduate Ro-Shaun Williams is among seven players set to leave Doncaster Rovers.

The club announced 24-year-old Williams will not be given a new contract at the end of his current deal next month.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell and striker Kieran Agard will also leave the club at the end of their contracts.

Strikers Caolan Lavery and Reo Griffiths have been transfer-listed and two others will be released.

Rovers also confirmed that contract talks will take place with Louis Jones, Ben Bottomley, Zain Westbrooke and Charlie Seaman, while Liam Ravenhill has signed a contract extension and midfielder Liam Ravenhill - who spent last season on loan at Blyth Spartans and Spennymoor Town - has signed a new deal.

Williams has played 64 games in his two seasons, and started more games than any other defender, but new manager Grant McCann has decided to dispense with his services, along with Mitchell who played in 42 of their 46 league games last season.

McCann said: "I feel that these decisions leave us with a very good platform to begin shaping the squad for next season, while also giving us plenty of scope to make quality additions to the group.

"The focus for us now is recruiting quality in key positions across the team to ensure we have strong competition for places. I have made no secret that we will be looking for players with strong character that can deal with the rigours of the division and who can handle the multiple approaches to matches that League Two demands.

"We know we have very good options for this level in various positions but we need to make sure we have the competition within the squad that will drive us on to achieve our goals, which we have been very clear about.

"There is a youthful element to the current group of contracted players and we are determined to further their development. In the coming weeks we will be assessing options of suitable loans for them that we feel will offer them real value.

"This is always a difficult process to go through, especially when telling players they will not be offered new deals. I know all at the club wish to thank those leaving us for their efforts during their time here."

Doncaster Rovers have signed right-back Jamie Sterry on a two-year deal, following his departure from relegated Hartlepool.

The 27-year-old joins the League Two side after making 102 appearances over two-and-a-half years for Pools.

Sterry began his career at Newcastle United, making eight senior appearances for the Magpies.

"Knowing a lot about the club, playing here a few times, I'm absolutely over the moon," he said.

"I had a lot of conversations with different clubs but this one felt right with me after speaking with the manager.

"I know how big the club is and the ambition is for the club to get promoted."

Rovers manager Grant McCann said he had been an admirer of the defender for some time.

"It's a really good signing for us. He's a good character, a really good player, his physical abilities and the way he wants to get forward," added McCann.

Sterry is the club's third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Ian Lawlor and Richard Wood.

Doncaster Rovers midfielder Zain Westbrooke has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

Westbrooke, 26, joined the League Two side as a free agent in March and made seven appearances during the season.

He came through the academies of Premier League sides Chelsea and Brentford, before playing for Coventry City and Bristol Rovers' first teams.

"The main aim when I came here for the end of last season was to try to get a new contract," said Westbrooke.

"I was just desperate to get back into football with the difficult period out. But I really enjoyed it, found my love back for the game again."

Rovers manager Grant McCann added: "It was tough for him coming in for the last few games, but I've no doubt that with a really good pre-season, he's going to be a force for us next year and we're going to try to get that out of him."

The 22-year-old did not make a first-team appearance for the Blades but did have loan spells at Boreham Wood, Rochdale and Belgian club Beerschot.

Broadbent has played 71 senior games, scoring seven goals, and has the option of a further year with Rovers.

"Doncaster is a really good opportunity to show what I can do," Broadbent said.

"Hopefully [I can] be successful this season with the team and push on in my career."

Defender Charlie Seaman has signed a one-year contract with Doncaster Rovers for the 2023-24 League Two season.

The 23-year-old has played 75 senior league and cup games since a debut for Dundee United on loan from Bournemouth, including 24 for Rovers last season.

Seaman had spells at West Ham and the Cherries before joining Rovers in 2020, and has also spent time at Weymouth, Eastleigh and Maidstone.

"It looks like a really promising time for the club," Seaman said.

"I'm glad I can be part of it. I've spoken to the manager a couple times and was buzzing when he said he wanted me to stay."

Doncaster Rovers have signed versatile midfielder Owen Bailey on a two-year deal after he rejected a new deal with National League side Gateshead.

The 24-year-old came through the youth system at Newcastle United, where he was a regular at under-21 level but failed to make a first-team appearance.

Bailey moved across to Gateshead, who he helped win promotion to the National League and reach the FA Trophy final.

"He's a good player with a really good background," boss Grant McCann said.

"What he'll bring is sheer tenacity to midfield - a defensive midfield player, aggressive, on the front foot and flexible in how he plays. He will compete in that position."

Tynesider Bailey had a trial spell at Rovers two summers ago and is happy to get the chance to play league football.

"It's a big club - you look at the stadium and the training ground and you can see that," Bailey said. "It's perfect for my development.

"When the manager rang me, I just wanted to get it done. Everything he said was the same about how I feel about football and he spoke about promotion. It was a no-brainer for me."
