HTAFC Prediction League 2022/23 Matchday 21 - FA Cup
#1
2 points for each correct scorer
Correct joker doubles your score   Laugh
Wrong joker result gives you minus 2
Correct Random Badger gives you 2 points Badger

The random badger Badger is used for any random prediction used once in each matchday sequence. For instance, a scorer at a particular match, the number of red cards in the matches or yellow cards or own goals or owt you want really within reason, I do need to be able to check whether it's correct or not. Please don't put stuff like....."Commentator says...."  Rolleyes
The joker  Laugh is played for one match in each sequence and if correct you get double points. So if you've predicted 1-0 and it finishes 2-0, you get 4 pts, but if you've predicted 2-0, that's 8 pts. But if you get it wrong, it's minus 2.
Jokers and badgers are optional. You don't have to play one if you don't want.

The prize for winning the league is one rep point.

Cup games: In the event of a draw, it's half the points if you've predicted a draw when it gets to 90 mins and the full points if it's still a draw after extra time. Half the points will be awarded for correctly predicting the winner of the match if it goes to penalties. Similarly with the badger, if your random prediction is affected by this, it'll be half the points.

Random score generator: I will be using the random score generator again for those who miss predicting, so we shouldn't get some people too far behind that after missing a couple of weeks they lose all interest, because I know it's not easy getting on here every week.
To be fair to everybody, this is going to be like, say if three people in one week miss their predictions, the first one in the table will be given all 0-0, the second one down the line will get 1-0 and the third will get 0-1 and so on, like if there's four missing the 4th will get 1-1, then 5th 2-1, 6th 1-2. and if there are so many missing, might as well pack in. Wink
And if you miss two weeks on the trot, I'll stop until you come back on again. Not doing it for half a season like I did t'other year.  Rolleyes

End of season Play Offs: The one who finishes top of the league will still be champion, but after the season finishes there will be Play Offs between the top 4, with 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. This will take in stuff like the EFL Play Offs, FA Cup Final, final day of Prima Donna League, European Finals etc. It will be one matchday for the semis and one for the Final. It will be the individual scores for each matchday against the allotted opponent, with some kind of tie breaker for a drawn match.

The prize for winning will be enormous. Another rep point. Whistle

I dislike fa cup fixtures, as you never can predict them correctly with teams playing their reserves etc. Like Chesterfield v wba, chances are the wba reserves will be playing giving the first team a rest/ I rest my case. Angel

It's the unpredictability that makes a prediction league so unpredictable.

I had enough problems with the supposedly predictable New Years fixtures. Predictably I predicted most of them imprecisely.

It also appears replays are in order for the 3rd and 4th rounds this season (please correct me if I'm wrong).

So here's my next attempt at "doing a L666s"

I used to love Cup Competitions but I've grown to dislike them ever since it was thought right to disrespect the opposition and play half your side or none ........ because supporters don't matter, the result doesn't much matter because you aren't realistically aiming to win the cup, you have other aims you selfishly judge more important. If any of that has ANYTHING to do with the notion of sport and what it does for the human race I'll eat my hat. It illustrates every base instinct. What sort of coup would it be for Chesterfield to beat WBA U-21s? What would be the reaction if we did what we disgracefully did in the FA Trophy against Coalville and deliberately selected a side to lose anyway. We've got another game a few days later, why not preserve our players and collect the money we'd get 0-1 or 0-6? Because it would cheating everyone concerned, even ourselves!

Go out with the best team available, do your best, smile if you win, smile and shake hands if you lose. And if your name's Arteta, shut the FFF up, stop whining and tantruming or you'll be grounded for a month with only old recordings of Alan Shearer to listen to!

Saturday January 7:
Preston 1-0 Town (12:30)
Town scorers:
PNE scorers: Ched Evans obviously

Forest Green Rovers 1-0 Birmingham City (12:30)
Blackpool 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Boreham Wood 1-0 Accrington Stanley
AFC Bournemouth 0-3 Burnley
Chesterfield 0-2 West Bromwich Albion
Ipswich Town 0-2 Rotherham United
Middlesbrough 2-0 Brighton & Hove Albion
Shrewsbury Town 2-3 Sunderland
Coventry City 0-3 Wrexham (17:30) (Wrexham have more to lose by playing a full-strength team than Coventry ....... just a thought)
Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Newcastle United (18:00)
Liverpool 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers (20:00)

Sunday January 8:
Cardiff City 1-3 Leeds United (14:00)
Hartlepool United 1-2 Stoke City (14:00)
Stockport County 3-0 Walsall (14:00)
Manchester City 3-2 Chelsea (16:30)

There used to be a ruling where you were only allowed to play so many reserves. Whatever happened to that?

When the Leagues, especially the Prima Donna League, said to clubs name and select from a squad of 25 and some managers picked mostly from their 12-25 for a game instead of their so called normal 1-11 and still got fined for playing a so called weaker side, it was quietly challenged, legally and quietly dropped.

I say quietly because the Prima Donna League particularly and the EFL by association, as their rules are for the most part the same, knew they'd dug their own hole and had to throw the shovels away quickly. The "squad of 25" is less rigid in the EFL than the P(D)L but the EFL can't act in isolation from the P(D)L when it comes to fining clubs for so called misdemeanours as these are largely governed by The FA, to add yet another layer of mud to the pies.

I don't know if the fines were returned (we were one that was fined at one time) but suddenly it didn't matter anymore, league or cup games, and it's now accepted it's a "squad game" and "rotation" is the accepted norm.

I think Colin was one of the more vociferous who called out the hypocrisy of the Prima Donna League and quite rightly too. They brought in the 25 player squad rule and still expected clubs to pick from just a core 11-15 starting players almost every match. Wasn't ever going to stand up legally one way or the other now was it?
