Walsall have signed midfielder Yann Songo'o on loan until the end of the season from fellow League Two promotion hopefuls Bradford City.

Songo'o, 31, is the Saddlers' fourth signing of the January window.

He follows the addition of Bristol City defender Joe Low, Newport County midfielder Robbie Willmott and Forest Green striker Jamille Matt.

Cameroon-born Songo'o began his career in Spain where he represented Real Zaragoza, Sabadell and Pobla Mafumet.

After a season in the United States with Sporting Kansas City in 2012, including a loan at Orlando City, he then spent two seasons with Blackburn Rovers before moves to Ross County (loan), Plymouth Argyle and Scunthorpe United, then Morecambe and Bradford.

Since being signed by then Bantams boss Derek Adams for a second time in July 2021, Songo'o scored three times in 63 appearances.

He was part of the Shrimps side under Adams who beat Walsall boss Michael Flynn's former club Newport County at Wembley in the League Two play-off final at Wembley in May 2021.

Walsall sit 11th in League Two, within four points of the play-offs, on the back of a run of just one defeat in 13 games in all competitions.

They host Premier League side Leicester City in Saturday's FA Cup fourth round.

Walsall have signed goalkeeper Jackson Smith on loan from Wolves for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old had a loan spell at non-league Kettering Town last season.

He is yet to play for Wolves' first team but appeared for the U21s against Stockport in the Papa Johns Trophy in September, which Wolves won 2-1.

"Jackson has come in to push Owen [Evans] and provide him with some much-needed competition," boss Michael Flynn told the Saddlers website.

Walsall are 11th in League Two, and are in FA Cup action on Saturday with a fourth-round tie against 2021 winners Leicester City.

Smith is their fifth signing of the January transfer window following Joe Low, Robbie Willmott, Jamille Matt and Yann Songo'o.

Walsall have signed Forest Green striker Matty Stevens on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Stevens, 24, led Forest Green's scoring with 27 goals in all competitions last season as they won League Two.

He is Walsall's sixth signing of the January transfer window and the move is subject to EFL clearance.

"If we can get him up and firing straight away then he's going to be a big signing for us," said Walsall head coach Michael Flynn.

Stevens, a former amateur boxer, signed for League One Peterborough in 2016 and had loan spells at Cambridge City, Sligo Rovers and Kettering before joining Forest Green.

He has scored a total of 39 goals for the Gloucestershire club.

Walsall midfielder Isaac Hutchinson has agreed a new contract with the League Two club to run until 2025.

The 22-year-old has made 46 appearances since arriving from Derby County last summer, scoring seven goals.

He previously had loan spells with Forest Green Rovers and Crawley Town.

"I think there's definitely more to come. It's his first year of regular football in the men's game and he'll only get better," said Saddlers head coach Michael Flynn.

Walsall are 13th in the table, 13 points outside the play-off places, but 15 clear of the relegation zone.

They are next in action at Rochdale on Friday afternoon.

"I want to get into double figures for goals and assists, I'm three off both now so I think that's doable," Hutchinson said.
