LAST TIME OUT
PNE 7 DERBY 9
MANAGER
In August 2020, Rooney was announced as the manager for the England team at Soccer Aid 2020, assisted by Sam Allardyce and goalkeeper coach David Seaman.[323]
Derby County
After a poor start to the 2020–21 season saw Derby bottom of the table – their lowest position for 12 years – Derby boss Phillip Cocu was sacked, and Rooney was appointed as part of a four-man interim coaching staff alongside Liam Rosenior, Shay Given and Justin Walker.[5] Rooney's first game in charge saw Derby lose 1–0 at Bristol City to leave them at the foot of the table and three points from safety, though Rooney said he could guarantee that the side would "get better (and) get out of the situation we're in and... start winning games."[324] Following a "painful and chastening" 3–0 defeat to Middlesbrough it was announced that Rooney would take sole control of the side for the next match and had removed himself from the playing squad,[264] with Rooney making clear his desire to take the role full time.[265] Rooney started sole charge with The Rams in 24th, six points adrift of safety and on a run of four consecutive defeats; after improving Derby's form enough to get them out of the relegation zone he was appointed as permanent manager on 15 January.[4] By mid-February 2021, having accrued 31 points from a possible 54 in his 18 games in sole charge, taking Derby up to 18th in the league and eight points clear of the relegation zone, Rooney was feted by the press for "convincing the doubters"[325] and found himself as 25/1 outsider for the Celtic job following the resignation of Neil Lennon.[326] Following this, however, form faltered badly with just one win from fourteen leaving Derby firmly in trouble,[327] with Rooney's side being criticised for its poor game management and sloppy defending[328] and suggestion that Rooney came across "as a manager who’s accepted defeat, who’s surrender himself to whatever results might come his way" and should be replaced.[327] Others defended Rooney, saying that though he had made mistakes, particularly in making "too many changes to personnel and shape/tactics" he had not been helped by injuries and too many players who had "been inconsistent (and) unable to maintain form both during a game and from game to game."[329] However, at the last match of the season, Derby County drew 3–3 at home with Sheffield Wednesday to barely avoid relegation.[330]
Whisper it quietly he's actually starting to do a good job although bottom and we all know the reason for that they have not actually played too badly this season and every credit for not walking away, no one would have blamed him if he had

Joshua Smith has been appointed as the Match Referee for Derby County's Sky Bet Championship fixture at Preston North End on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Smith has overseen 11 games so far this season in all competitions, showing 39 yellow cards and two reds in the process.
This weekend's match will be his first where he has taken charge of a Derby fixture.
Smith will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Natalie Aspinall on the lines, whilst Jeremy Simpson has been appointed as the fourth official.
MACS VIEW
On the pitch we need a win, no ifs no buts, given the amount of times I've seen us beat the Rams since 2006 is zero, irony that last season played behind closed doors we beat them 3 times and no one got to see it does have an omninous ring about it
The Rams bottom due to slightly iffy ways of running the club although think they have a cheek to appeal against the 12 point deduction given there is every possibility they will get another 9 point one.
On the pitch they have not done too badly suspect it's seige mentality. Still have a couple of decent players Lawrence being the stand out.
A hectic period with games coming thick and fast however three out of the next four are at home wins required.
When last seen McCann was struggling to get up the slope on the underground passage way at Preston station using crutches, Bauer was also limping.
Barkhuizen has got game time in the reserves and Rafferty has bween added to the first team squad which suggest there is a problem at right back.
Off the field could be a very pivotal week for the club with the death of Uncle Trev, the club will be spot on with everything on Saturday, just need a win to celebrate Trevor's passing
