The Old Trafford Cloak of Invisibility
#1
David Moyes may have had time to be discarded, collect Jobseekers' and land himself a probably brief holiday in Spain, but it isn't all that long since Tendayi Darikwa was the next big thing.

He's still relatively young, he's proved he can adapt to playing full back, midfield or wing (having started out at centre forward). Apart from a spell out with quite a bad injury, he's proved extremely durable and positively thrives on playing every week.

Attacking from the full back positions has been pivotal to our play and Tendayi has been involved in the build-up to a lot of our goals, yet publicly he's invisible. He doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar, when several of our other players are. Certainly Moyes's anti-magic dust from the parallel universe he inhabited at Old Trafford messed with Tendayi's mind, but am I crazy to think this play-anywhere man is the one some Championship club should be hunting down? There so many aspects to his game he can still develop further. If Drew Talbot came back fully fit and better than ever, is anybody telling me we wouldn't re-shuffle to keep Darikwa in our side?

Ryan's good ..... but can he get better? The Ginger Costa's been great, but he's never scored goals like this before .... will he ever do it again? Morsy's doing well, his football could step up ...... but can his temper? The Chesterfield players who ought to be on the agenda are Tendayi ..... and somebody might even gamble that Raglan has already shown he can jump two or three tiers without breaking stride and his price-tag would be affordable to a Championship side looking to the future.

Dev, Tedayi needs to get a lot more consistency in his game before he will attract interest from above. Drew is a better full back imo as he is at least consistent. Tendayi seems to be either good or poor but when he is poor my god he stinks at times. Morsy is consistent as is Ryan and because of that they will attract the hawks, not sure about Doyle. Tendayi is a lge1 player at best and seems to be going backwards at times. Hope he proves me wrong and gets his act together, he is more than capable.
Last week I thought hurry up and get back Drew then Tendayi turns in a good performance against the Gills. Cook says he practices crossing all week but think he means cross dressing cos some of Tendayis crossing threatens the roof of the stand more than the opposition defenders. Good job he wears a cloak of invisibility because stockings and suspenders don't look good on a footballer. Merry Christmas.

Wow, amazing Dancing! Obviously you are always seeing full games whereas often I see highlights and that means I see mostly good stuff ......... but from my skewed perspective, when we produce the goods the thrust almost always comes from the full back positions, (because we lack strength up front?). A lot of Jones's work might be more productive with Gnanduillet at centre forward, but he still creates danger. Darikwa doesn't play the quite same way, lays off different balls, does occasionally get crosses completely wrong, but goals do come from his side (and if it weren't for him that would very much be our weaker side. If Drew came back as I hope he is doing I'd just move Darikwa forward, that would be a real threat down the right. BUT you are right to point out weaknesses in his game, which is the very reason a club with any sense would come for him. He isn't going back. He may well be playing his third best position. If he wants it he can develop.

Ryan knows his game and could slot in at Championship level. His skills look good and he tackles. He won't be a let-down but it's pretty unlikely he'll get much better and to be honest I'm guessing the same goes for Morsy and Doyle (though the improvement he's made could mean he's a new man). All I'm saying is if I were buying someone I'd be looking for guys who could improve and in our team ..... despite Roberts and Morsy being the stars, Ryan being the fulcrum, Doyle the goals and Tommy the stopper, that's Raglan and Darikwa. (I'd have hoped I might be mentioning Banks and Gardner but their development seems to be going through a Jethro Tull period.)

Football's a strange and misleading game, when I look at our defence it doesn't seem to be the winger playing full back who loses his man, it isn't even the nutter playing on the left, and it generally isn't the inexperienced man thrust in at centre back ..... far more often it seems to be Evatt, who at times can also look great and who is a big favourite of mine and most other fans ...... and when he isn't cocking up, it is Tommy, who sadly has probably left it too late to leave the club for something better. Maybe it's down to a lack of confidence in their mates, but if I were isolating issues for the team I'd say Roberts isn't scoring enough and Evatt and Lee are making mistakes. And they're all good players. Hope it comes good against the Posh, but that's another tough one. Happy New Year.

Loved us beating Peterborough and not just because Darikwa was involved in the build-up to two goals and Tommy cocked up ....... even I have to get something right occasionally. I wasn't trying to be critical of Roberts by the way - he just seems so pivotal to our build-up play now he's unlikely to be on the end of things too (and we do kinda expect goals from him). And that expectation can only grow if someone decides the miraculously transformed Ginger Costa is the million-pound answer to a shortage of goals.

My big worry if Drew Talbot came back would be quite how to fit both Darikwa and Boco into the team, because one injects indispensible energy, whilst the other has a subtlety and an eye not many possess at our level.

Dev, when Boco plays he covers for Darikwa so he can forward more. I cant understand why hBoco isn't in the team every game because Oshea and Roberts offer no protection whatsoever. Darikwas problem seems to be confidence which by being in the team for a long run he should have in abundance. When he should be whipping crosses in he takes an extra touch and gets closed down and then more often than not loses the ball. He gets in some great positions but seems reluctant to use his pace and run past defenders. He prefers to cut inside and many a good move has ended with him going backwards. He can be incredibly frustrating but then again puts in the odd good performance like yesterday but when Boco went off Tendayi might as well gone with him because he was shocking after that.
Great to see Armand get a goal. He was superb yesterday. Hope it wasn't an injury he went off with as he was limping a bit as was Boco.
Snow permitting will be at Coventry tomorrow. Play offs here we come (again)

Oh Dancing I love proper fans like you. I was praying for a win at Coventry because that would put us only 18 points from safety (I think it might take 52 points this year!)

I agree Tendayi lacks confidence. The trouble is the flip side of that is when Man Utd come after you then you switch to over-confidence ..... and you try too many things. He has energy, pace and skill - and in the modern game you need players who can play in a number of positions. If he were Dutch, Spanish or French I'm convinced they'd see how much he has to work on .....

There's a flip side to Tendayi looks good because of Boco. Boco looks good because of Tendayi (and the team looks better for both of them). I want Tendayi to cut inside defenders, but he needs to bloody shoot. The full back coming inside is vastly more dangerous, because the keeper doesn't know whether he's getting a cross, shot or a pass - an ordinary pulled-back cross is mostly easy-peasy and headers from them are easier to anticipate.

O'Shea is very talented, but isn't part of a team. He can win the game, but not often enough. And Roberts? Well I can't imagine the manager saying to him, "I need you to play left back today!" My only real criticism of him would be that we blunt him by playing him too often. I'd look after him and let him know he's being pampered.
