Well, the big spring revival was nice while it lasted; sadly, in true April style, it ended with an absolute shower. Nor is the torment at an end yet, because that shower now have two local derbies to face back-to-back in eight days: the first against Villa on Sunday night, the second versus Wolves a week on Monday.

Of course, it's now very much the business end of the season, and over the course of these two rounds of matches it's quite possible for us to be relegated. Should we lose both while Newcastle, Brighton and Burnley shuffle up to 36 points in the meantime, it'll all be done bar the rubber-stamp (and 37 points for that trio would indeed make it a mathematical certainty). After the Leicester match, it's likely just a matter of time anyway, but in a season of few joys, it'd be preferable not to be sent down by Wolves in ten days' time.

As for the matches themselves... well, in the event that we can turn out a couple of performances to match those against Chelsea and Southampton, I'd be overjoyed. The overwhelming likelihood of relegation doesn't lessen the importance of a derby day; if anything, salvaging some pride means all the more now. After getting a miserable hiding off Villa and their hired ref at Christmas, a good showing against them would be welcome irrespective of the result. And the Wofflers? Great fun beating them against the odds at Molineux, and of course, it's now been a full twenty-five years since their last win at the Hawthorns. Doing the double is probably too much to ask, but at the very least, a draw would prolong that record of theirs nicely.

Pick up a point or two, postpone the inevitable another week or two; in the circumstances, that'll do for me.
