Fingers are very firmly crossed - this would tick 2 boxes.

Mcinnes stayed there 3 years too long, could have had the rangers job before gerrard. He lost a lot of his best players on free transfers and couldn't replace them properly.
Overall he did a decent job there, probably should have won more trophies when rangers were out the league but he would be a solid choice.
A lotta Dons' fans just didn't like his brand of footie this season - too boring and unacceptable from their point of view. However, the loss of so many good players gradually reduced the standard of solid team that he really wanted esp up front where games are ultimately won by goals scored - I think the Dons' last nine fixtures produced one goal!! Now that is a glaring negative stat and yet they are still sitting on 4th place in the Scot Prem in a league with an overall standard of footie that is seriously poor, prob one of the worst in Europe at the mo.

Can't believe he's been there 8 years. Time flies when a) you're having fun, b) you get old. I'm a Baggie, so it can't be a). Cue Josh.

Forward thinking by the Chairman.
Cormack thanked McInnes and Docherty and said the manager had "raised the bar and delivered a level of consistency not seen at the club for many years". "Clearly, results since the turn of the year have been disappointing and frustrating for everyone," the chairman added. "The club now has the opportunity to appoint a new manager ahead of the new season where, with a number of players out of contract, we have work to do to build a competitive squad." Just a pity no-one at WBA shares that view. DD ![]() ![]()

A big "no" from me. I loved Derek McInnes as a player and captain at the club but, if we appointed him, I think it would be heart ruling the head. My son is at Uni in Aberdeen and, as an exiled Baggie, he's been to Pittodrie a lot and adopted them as his second club. Ask him and he'll tell you the football is turgid. They've scored once in nine games, and that against Killie, the only team on a worse run than the Dons. It used to be that Aberdeen under McInnes only failed to perform against the Old Firm - no disgrace in that although Celtic's implosion this year opened opportunities for those below them to get something out of games against them this season, which Ross County, Livingston, St Mirren have all done by winning, while Aberdeen have managed a total of 1 point - but in the last nine games they've failed to score against St Johnstone, Livingston (twice), Hibs, St Mirren and Hamilton. The only goal scored - against Killie - came from a free kick so nothing scored from open play.
If we are not happy with Allardyce's style of play, we'll probably despair about McInnes'. He had eight years at Pittodrie and the first five were pretty OK but the last 2-3 years have been very poor. It may a case of exhaustion setting in for both him and the club, and his budget is pretty low compared to Celtic and Rangers, but that applies to every other team in the SPL as well. A few years ago I would have been very positive about him coming to the Hawthorns but not now.

There's something depressingly inevitable about the constant cycle of "attacking manager, defensive manager, club hero" that's characterised Albion's appointments for the last twenty years. Megson (defensive) to Robson (club hero) to Mowbray/RDM (attacking) to Hodgson/Clarke (defensive) to Dean Kiely (club man if not a hero) to Pepe Mel (attacking) to Irvine/Pulis/Pardew (defensive) to Darren Moore (club hero) to Slaven Bilic (attacking) to Allardyce (defensive) to... McInnes?
It's consistent, if nothing else. "I would rather spend a holiday in Tuscany than in the Black Country, but if I were compelled to choose between living in West Bromwich or Florence, I should make straight for West Bromwich." - J.B. Priestley

I wouldn't want McInnes at the club. He, like Michael Appleton, are only ever suggested because they are former Baggies.
We saw with Big Dave that being a former Baggie only goes so far. The sacking that ended his time was brutal. |
