Put a bid in for a player but it declined.

Bontempi is unlikely to get a work visa.

Joe bennett has been told he can leave Villa a month after Xia block his transfer. Tony Xia is a prick, who tweets like a millenial. He's 2dum 2use twitter like a businessman. Don't put Dr. before your name as title when you're illiterate. Doh

Apparently we tried to loan him instead of sign.. Another stupid xxxx move by our Club. I Don't see any of the current goings on as "Good recruitment" this summer. We've done the bare minimum necessary, and continue to piss about as we're 4-5 games in to the season.

Judge is going to Newcastle. that's another target lost.

Apologies in advance for the SHIT link. It does however, underline a problem at S6 that myself and others have raised. We can't compete and seem to have no backup contingency should the ideal target fall through. Adhering to FFP rules are imperative. There's also a point where it's delusional to compete against Newcastle, Villa & Norwich financially.
It seems to me we have a bad habit of putting all our eggs in one basket, ad when daddy war bucks signs them from under our noses, we flail about because we had no 2nd choice player in mind. It is POOR!
We should be putting in a proper bid for Bennett right now!!!!! But I bet we're not!! 5th game of the season coming up.

All about the S6 train to procrastination station. Laugh

Carlos is right and unfortunately it will only get tougher as the new Prem money kicks in. This year is slightly unusual because the resources Villa and Newcastle have even without the TV money means they can outspend everyone else already, add in the parachute money and theey are way ahead. Norwich will rely on the TV money more, putting them more within reach, but we really need the likes of Hull, Burnley, Bournemouth, Boro and Watford to make up the teams that come down, because even with the parachute money they will not spend like or have the drawing power that Villa and Newcastle do and will generally be more about securing the clubs future by using the TV money wisely. Realistically we are going to have to find the bargains, the younger players to bring through and the players in the leagues below or abroad who are good enough but under the normal transfer radar for most clubs. And its not just us, aside from the three relegated teams, none of the other teams have spent that much so far and are unlikely to.

FFP is a great concept to stop teams over stretching but at the same time it stops the likes of us doing what Man City and Chelsea did when they go wealthy owners. You would hate to see it becoming a free for all between rich owners as that would just send the transfer prices sky high compared to what they are now, but unless that happens we will struggle to get in the established players and have to hope for the recruitment to find a gem or two that give us that push over the edge.!!

I agree, it's going to become increasingly difficult.

I'm starting to think we blew our one great opportunity in the PO final to strike Oil. I think it's fair to say we can consider ourselves stunted unless the players themselves excel on the pitch.

And FFS make a serious offer for Bennett we need him Doh

I still think we have improved the starting 11 with the signings we have made, but now its up to CC to find his best 11, play them in their correct positions, get the formation right and get them playing to the standard we know they can. Don't think we are stunted, we are really no different in terms of the squad than the other Championship teams from last season, none of whom have improved that much. The one exception to that I think is maybe Wolves, they will be in and about the playoffs this season, but I still think we will. The playoffs are potentially our saving grace, as they are for other teams. Only 2 of the relegated teams can get into the autos, that leaves the crapshoot of the playoffs for the other and three wannabe teams like us. Promotion is our goal, but maybe it will have to be via the playoffs if we cannot get it together quickly enough or consistently enough!!

One crumb of comfort currently, we are ranked 2nd in possession so far this season, and we are quite high with 48 attempts on goal, so if we maintain that level even though we have only scored 2 goals so far we know we have the strikers that will get goals and we will win games. If we had take one of the decent chances against L**ds in the first half I think we would have won the game, but we didn't and got punished for a poor display rather than picking up 3 points from a poor display.

It will always be difficult to get promoted because invariably two of the relegated sides go straight back up again so it usually only leaves one spot for the rest. Newcastle have the strongest squad by miles and Norwich are stronger now than they were when they went two seasons ago.

FFP works against clubs like us & favours yoyo teams. Once we go up once, we join the gravy train & should be able to pretty much guarantee either staying up or going back up each season.

The biggest danger to us now is that we over-react to a couple of poor results and discard all the things that took us to the Playoffs last season. We could easily win the next six matches and be top four a month from now.

I respect your optimism, as always MS.

However, based on the Clubs approach to recruitment and the first 4 games of the season. Improvements begs to be seen.

That's wrong though!! What other team has done their business early?? Newcastle are throwing silly money around to get their players in early, but aside from them there have been very few deals of any note. Why do we always assume because it took a while to sort the Pudil/Abdi deal that it was us holding it up and not Watford?? We can be negative all day long while the results haven't gone our way, but our first team is stronger on paper than it was last season, now they have to take that onto the pitch!!
