Obscure Player No 4

This player wouldn't be obscure if I gave you full details. He played a lot of league games, almost half of which were for us. He was tough and durable, but didn't really look it. A disappointed opposing manager described him as, "the worst full back in Europe" and he was once booked against Sheffield United for playing keepie-uppies, which wasn't even against the rules. Alsager College might be another clue. He has also returned to Chesterfield in recent memory to promote Walking Football alongside David Pugh for gentlemen of my age.

Getting booked for doing keepie-uppies sounds like the daft sort of thing Shaun O`Neill would do.

No, and I thought you'd get it SaltergateBorn. Perhaps the worst full back in Europe bit misled you. This one also played midfield.

Ah..I see. If it`s who I`m thinking it is, I remember him more as a midfielder than a fullback.

So would this be one of the Jamm, Bakewellll or Apppple variety? Or am I barkking up the wrong ttree?

Nottt attt all. He tttrained as a ttteacher, but not Arttttt.

Questions aren't meant to give you the answers too easily.

The quote was from John Greig manager of Rangers. Wonder why ..........

Keepie-uppies was in a cup tie against Sheff Utd when we were winning 1-0.

He played over 200 games for us. Oh yes Colin Tartt ..... never rated him that much myself. Looked like a full back in midfield and a midfielder at full back to me, but he always seemed to be fit and on the field and that counts for a lot.

This time, my friend, you`ve got me.

I presume from the John Greig comment that it was somebody who played in THAT Anglo-Scottish Cup tie but having looked at the line-ups for those games I can`t think of anyone - apart from Colin Tartt - who would fit the bill. That`s why I plumped for him - as well as his being involved in the walking football programme with David Pugh.

I must therefore concede defeat and wait for you to put me out of my misery at some point.

Why did I write the answer thattt way? SORRY

I was trying to answer thattt you weren't barking up the wrong tree! YOU WERE RIGHT - IT WAS COLIN TARTT! Oh cripes!

I don't think John Greig was at all bitter about getting thumped by a third division team.

COLIN TARTT ...... not my favourite player ......... but he obviously played his part.

No need to apologise, Dev; no need at all.

You didn`t actually say I was wrong; I just assumed it. Nothing more than me having a(nother) senior moment. They`re coming along thick and fast at the moment, just like London buses. Having said that, it`s good to know that I`m not going COMPLETELY round the twist; I`m still just half-way round, it appears.

When you come all the way round the twist I'll be waiting to greet you.
