Where are we heading?
#1
I must admit I am a little puzzled about we are heading.

Firstly we had the AI appointment which I think most of us were pretty underwhelmed about, though I think most reasonable people said let’s see how he gets on and I have to say so far, much better than expected.

We spend in excess of £15 mil on players, yet only £1.5 mil of those players, seem to be able to get into the team (Pocognoli) because AI is getting some great work out of the players he already had and the free’s.

We have a bench full of internationals, which apparently are going to have to quite rightly wait for an injury or the right opponents to get a league game.  We have the top English striker in the premiership and an under 21’s squad oozing with promise.

We are playing some great football, still in the cup, yet only two points above the relegation zone, but for some reason that feels ok, like we are going to go shooting up the league any day

Now I know it is far too early to get carried away, but things do look a lot more promising than they did six months ago.  I think I am going to get some cotton wool in,  to deal with the nose bleeds caused by the dizzy heights of the Premiership, just in case.

It would be good to see some of these players get onto the pitch. I know a cup run will give them that, but I think AI needs to be a little more creative with his substitutions. But you are right, this is a much better place than I expected to be in - happy days.

Its remarkable how competition for the first team starting line-up has motivated the longer serving players who obviously know quite well there is someone in the sidelines eagerly waiting for them to slip up and under-perform.

Just pleased that the Baggie's dressing room seems to be a far happier place and that Saido has really knuckled down after last season's transgressions.

Bit worried about the money spent on Anichibe who seems to be more or less permanently injured.

But we are holding our own and any improvement is very welcome after last season's debacle.
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.

As you say Silver, Sicknote 1 has been a semi-permanent injury player since he arrived. It's amazing how a big guy like Anichebe gets injured so easily. Personally I have never really rated him particularly his skill factor. He maybe good at holding the ball up but nowhere near the class of Saido or probably Ideye. Not the best of buys methinks.

Turned out to be a terrible buy.
January Sales? But who would pay for him - even his wages - with his record? Championship club at best wanting to make a statement maybe Huh

What is it about £2mil a goal not the greatest return for a striker, at least we will not have to pay out any add-ons.  Still he might come back and prove us all wrong.

I'd sell for £3m and replace like-for-like in January unless he starts scoring/stays fit. I think he was the intended replacement for Fortune but tbh he hasn't played anywhere near enough to justify taking MAF's place. He is fit now though so lets hope he comes back stronger than ever.

He is a big lad is Vic. Remember him playing for the Toffees and doing well. He has never been a goal machine though, although did better at international level. Scored 2 vital goals for Baggies though, both getting points V top teams. Sure he will come back better. It is always good to buy players and have them populate the bench for a while especially if the team is doing well. It gives the true competitor the drive to play well when he gets his chance.

Agreed, he has never done too much wrong for us, but unfortunately not done enough right.

2-3m and he's gone. Especially how we find ourselves with a glut of midfielders, and playing 1 up front.

Potentially (At a real push) we could have 5 or 6 strikers even if Anichebe goes (Berahino, Brown, Sess, Varela, Samaras, Nabi?) I know some are a bit far fetched, but I'd sell if possible, or at the end of the year, and replace next year, when we have sorted the new recruits out from this year.

I still think Brown will come good, and Gamboa, both with a decent run in the team at some point. I havent seen much at all of Blanco so far (or Varela) but I hear good things, so hopefully next year in the prem (fingers crossed) it's a case of getting 2-3 players in, maybe 1 being a loanee, for some real quality competition.
