Andy Murray - what a true legend!
#1
Different sport but Andy apparently celebrated Hibs cup final victory at the weekend and obviously not here to do it! I watched his match this afternoon in the second round of the French Open v Matias Bourgue and he was embroiled in an epic dogfight against a young French tennis player who was possessed with inspiration - at one stage the lad won 23 pts out of 26 pts. But Murray 'dug in' in his usual style and finally overpowered this guy in another 5 set thriller! What a great player he is and he's proved it time n time again - astounding stuff and he has played 10 sets in 3 days of top class tennis!!

It was like he fell asleep in the second set. He was cruising but then all of a sudden he was two sets to one down.
Great match though and the result never really in doubt. Not many beat Andy in five sets.

Aye! He definitely has a certain tenacity about him in these long, grueling matches where he eventually 'grinds down' most of his opponents! Also he has superb fitness levels that help him to attain these kinda victories.

A tenacity to be runner up,sorry lads I know he's one if you but barring those two majors he just finished second unlucky to have captured Djokovic and Federer during his career

You got it in one! His era coincided with the high times of top class performers like Djokovic and Federer and you could throw Nadal into the mix as well but he's still one of the great British players of all time and he does indeed have a terrific tenacity that is required to compete against the great players of tennis - he's certainly done that and he's won two majors, an Olympic gold medal (beat Federer at Wimbledon in that epic final), carried the GB Davis Cup team to a historic victory in Belgium + he has won other ATP circuit tourneys as well against top tennis opponents incl Federer and Djokovic! He has not been a runner up all the time and that's the main point!! Look back at the performances of male British tennis players in the past 80 years and you'll discover Murray stands 'head and shoulders' in the British tennis hall of fame - IMO a true legend that hopefully some budding younger British tennis players may try to emulate some day.

Too right he's unlucky to be playing at the same time as those three. They are four of the best players of all time, all playing at the same time.
Djokovic is by far and away the better of them all though and if he wasn't playing at the same time as the other three, he would've broke the record for grand slam wins by now.

I'd still back the Fed 'in his prime' as being alongside Novak as the all-time best but it's all down to opinion - very close to call!

Murray 'blows away' John Isner in straight sets this afternoon to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open! Thumb up No Nadal and no Federer left in this tourney and I think Andy is on course to reach another final, prob v Novak!
