...would've been 60 today - and still probably dazzling us with his sublime combination of speed, balance and control.

RIP Laurie - you are STILL an Albion legend, and my favourite all time player Peace dove Peace dove

An old video of mine for the occasion. You're still missed, Laurie.

Great video Ska'd and people should remember when watching it that the ball in those days was nothing like what they play with today and the pitch three weeks into the season more resembled a ploughed field that a football pitch. Not to mention the banana's that were thrown onto the pitch regularly aimed at "Our Three Degrees""

While some of us may sometimes feel a little jealous of the youth of others, its time like this that make the extra years worthwhile. The fact that we were lucky enough to see, week in week out the legend that was Laurie Cunningham.

For those that have never seen it this is a link to a documentary about Laurie.

Great words, Salop  Thumb up Thumb up
You're dead right, it was a privilege to have seen Laurie C play. I know I've mentioned it before but I rate his performance for us against Valencia as the best I've ever seen from one individual; his grace, speed and balance when beating a team full of internationals - who weren't even good enough to bring him down, however hard they tried! - was something really special

Laurie Cunningham, quite simply the best player I have ever seen. I don't think I missed a single game he, cyrelle or Brendan played in and the 5-3 night v man ure is my greatest memory. Had the honour of meeting Laurie a couple of times during his time at the Albion and he really was a genuinely nice bloke. The three of them are undoubtedly responsible for making the Albion fans the most tolerant, accepting and unracist (if that's a word) fans in the country, certainly back in the late 70s early 80s.
Just as an aside, I actually got to meet big cyrelle for the first time at the villa game a few weeks ago and as a 50 something it was still fantastic to meet one of my boyhood heroes and introduce my 11 year old son to him. Another top bloke.

The most skilful player I had the fortune to watch in an Albion shirt. If there had been any justice he would have earned 80 caps at least for England at a time when the national team was bereft of the talent he had to offer. A genius in the best Baggies side I have seen. A tragedy to lose him so young

I still thank my lucky stars I was around to see those players, THAT TEAM. My son calls me an old fart (I'm 48) but I show him these snippets of the best team we ever had and wax lyrical about those days. I loved it and My Lord what would some of those players be worth in todays market.

I remember flying back from Corfu and hearing the news Laurie was dead. I cried for a long time even though he'd moved on from my beloved Albion. Watching that video has stirred up so many memories for me. times were difficult but the football we played then was sublime and we should have and would have won the league if it wasn't for the winter back log of games we had to play.

Best 2 Wingers I have ever witnessed in an Albion Shirt were Laurie & Willie. Where have the "PROPER" wingers gone?
Thank god for players like Zaha & Bolasie (BUT NOT A PATCH ON THE BLACK FLASH Smile ).

Indian by birth, raised in gods own district of Handsworth & Supporting the Baggies... life was fantastic until I grew up and had to be a responsible adult Sad

Where in Handsworth? (I'm a Grove Lane Old Boy - 99% were Baggies fans when I was a lad.)
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with
