I think they are better in England where the playoffs only involve the teams in the lower league, makes it fairer than having to play a team from the league above who have sat and rested for 2 weeks while it gets decided who they will be playing.  It should be the bottom two relegated and the 2nd-5th in the Championship into the playoffs.  But I agree that at least in England they are the best change to happen to football for a long time and keep the season alive for a lot more teams keeping the games competitive and exciting.

The two bottom Premiership teams should've been automatically relegated but I'd actually add that the points deficit matters in a play off situation - why should any team be given a play-off position when, for example they were possibly 15 pts off the team placed above them - IMO a farcical position that could be easily remedied by stipulating the min points deficit regarded as eligible and also it removes unnecessary match commitments and at least recognises the superior achievement of the team that has earned that right throughout a long, arduous season!!

Have to agree Worthin, although I can see why they are put in place in order to try and generate interest in the end of the season......this year being a fine example with the league now realistically gone to Ibrox , 5 + clubs and supporters will still be showing an interest in promotion/relegation. However if 2 go up / down then it should be the bottom 2 from the premiership are down and the promotion hopefuls from the Championship fight it out for the second promotion spot with the winners automatically going up of course.

As for last night just one of those games that nothing fell for Hibs after some superb build up and passing play. These things happen so move on. Have to agree re Oxley and he certainly showed the nickname we gave him last season.....will he, won't he.....especially on the Morton first goal.

Ah well, shit happens. Huns won the league now so hopefully get oor mojo back and go up via playoffs. There's Nae point moaning aboot the playoffs, they are what they are and we were probably one o' the clubs that voted for them, never dreaming we'd be in this position---f#ckin twice. Been saying all along you've got tae put your strongest available team on the pitch for these games and Stubbs didnae. Misfiring strikers dinnae help, if stokes wants tae kickstart his career he's rapidly running oot o' games GGTTH

Stokes has been one of the biggest irritations since he came in Paigntonhibby. I said in previous comments that I had lost patience with this guy and last night's match just confirmed this even more. Scored goals were key to winning this league and the issue re misfiring strikers has finally caught up with us and we can see why Stubbs is desperately trying to give El Alagui the matches to attain match fitness - IMO far too late in the season to attempt this!!  Also why was Martin Boyle not given the 'nod' in place of Stokes?????? I can't figure why Stubbs made that decision, IMO a wrong one!! I also agree re fielding our strongest side (within reason) - you don't make seven changes (+ another seven changes) to a football team within 5 days and expect no disruption to that team - utter folly!! I'm guessing that Stubbs is observing signs of tiredness within the squad and he has tried extensive player rotation to rest certain players as much as he can. I think he overdid this exercise, albeit with good intentions, and we've suffered the consequences. IMO resting Bartley was another act of folly and I believe we would not have lost last night's match if Bartley and Hanlon (or Gunnarson) had been placed in Hibs lineup. Stubbs already saying today that winning the Championship is a 'tall order' and no wonder - wrong team decisions at the wrong time!!

The worrying aspect for Hibs now is if they dont go up this season, and given their play off record not a certainty. How will the club manage another season in the championship on a premier budget.

His attitude last night was unbelievable,which i suspect is why deila binned him at celtic.

He is capable of a lot more than that,but he needs to put the work in.

A couple of points (and more) to make:

1: Awful lot of down-trodden inferiority complexes here today. One defeat and it's all over, apparently (mind you, that's exactly my sentiments of a few months ago ). A quarter of the season to go yet guys. Lot of football to be played and plenty of opportunities for Rangers to drop points yet. Or you could just accept your place and assume the position. Like usual.

2: The play-offs are a great system - when implemented properly. Having the team from the higher division dropped in at the final stage is an utter abomination. There's no excuse for it except for the Self Preservation League's insistence on it. The English system works because the only teams fighting for it are those with a chance of going up, not those fighting for a chance to stay up. A twelve team division needs two to go straight down, no second chances, no 'lifelines' no 'phone a friend'. Down, straight down - 'cos ye deserve it.

Having the lower league teams fight it out exclusively also lets another side have the chance to go up - the fifth-placed team. Even more interest generated in the end of the season. Of course, that doesn't matter because who gives a f*ck about the lower league teams, eh?

I'd like to think - I'd hope, certainly - that our (both Rangers and Hibs, and to a lesser degree Hearts perhaps) time in the lower leagues has allowed us to educate ourselves in regards to both the quality of many of the sides here, and the trials and tribulations they have to go through to merely compete with those around them to try and better themselves. At the core of it all though is a deeply unfair and repressive regime that controls the game in Scotland to its detriment, a scenario that seemingly runs on fear and loathing in equal measure.

I'm not a fan of 2nd - 5th competing for a play off: it becomes an end of season split almost. There's just something wrong with the whole top half of the table (bar the champions who've been promoted) having a chance of promotion after the season ends.

I'd rather a two up two down system or a play off final between 2nd and 11th.
