Forest v Town - 13-Feb-2016

Great 3 points won today - a worthy win according to the BBC. Well done Town. Things are looking up as far as playing good football is concerned, we just need the consistency in good scoring form and solid defending.

Read the thread now and there's a bottle of plonk being opened for the Livingston v Hibs game on BBC Alba in a few minutes. OO2BA double!  Thumb up

We were bang at it from the off, took the lead when Smithys low hard driven cross left Mills facing the wrong way. We looked bright all half but Forest came into it from 25 mins on and wasted 2-3 chances.

They started brighter 2nd, down the other end had 3 loud hand ball claims ( the crowd that was) but we hunted them in packs at the edge of the box and kept them at bay, we werent offensive enough until Billings screamer then found a spring in our step, the fans too.

I thought all the back 4 did really well, Dolly ran at them well Wells worked hard up front against 2 tall n strong defenders, Billing & Hogg bossed the battles, Vaughan was influential for them but they didnt have enough to really hurt us.

Fine celebrations at the end, Wagner making us wait to give us the fist pump and wave unsure how many 2000 it held so i gues 1200, minus those thrown out for standing and giddy HT sing songs under neath the stand by typical Notts over zealous stewards.

2 wins on the bounce there now, home in half an hour, blagged our way into the TBI before as home fans better get a lottery ticket before 7!

Great play by Town today. All over Forest like a rash for the most part. Yes they had their chances, heck they were at home and 13 games unbeaten, they should have created a lot more.

For the Brits at home that can't wait

The rest will gave to wait until YouTube tomorrow around 12:00 ish, our time.

Great result. Forest are former European champions and should easily be beating tinpot little clubs like ours.
Unfortunately for them, they're pisch!  Laugh

All their fans started laughing at Bunny when he fell over, but they weren't laughing when he got back up and won the ball back up again, gave it to the ten foot tall Billing and BOOM!  Laugh  Laugh

Wagner and Oggy - post match

Player thoughts.

Steer - commanded his area well, made a couple of good saves when called on on the few occasions when Forest got through.
Smith - solid at the back, made several runs down the right. His cross for the goal would have been a tap in for Wells if Mills hadn't got there first. Booked at 73mins
Hudson & Lynch - solid as a rock at the back. Not much got passed them. Having a commanding keeper like Steer behind them helps to make their job easier.
Husband - another good game, linked well with Matmour down the left to keep Forest on the back foot.
Billing - fantastic display - freed up by Hogg destroying anything Forest tried to send down the middle. This kid has a great future. When his goal went in I'll swear I could see Deano's eyes welling up with ££££'s signs. Don't sell him too early Deano - we can go places with this lad. Goal of the Day in the Grauniad online. Substituted for Whitehead at 88 minutes
Hogg see above. Booked at 72mins Substituted forCranie at 90+3 minutes
Bunn his contribution to Biling's goal has already been well documented by Snoots. Substituted for Dempseyat 90+2 minutes
Matmour - as above, linked up well with Husband to provide a threat down the left.
Lolley - man of the match for me. Ran at Forest all day and had alarm bells ringing in their defence everytime he had the ball.
Wells - worked hard in conjunction with Bunn to keep the Forest defense on their toes, robbed of a tap in for the first. Ran well off Lolley, Bunn and Billing to create openings. Otherwise his shooting was a bit wayward at times (not that we've not seen it before) but he kept having a go.

Wagner - got it spot on this weekend against a surprisingly poor Forest team. His substitutions were far later than usual, perhaps indicative of how much fitter he has got the squad, but how could he take anyone off when we were so far on top? Now the lads are running hard at the opposition with the ball as well as trying to pass the ball round them (a good mix of the two) we are creating more opportunities. We've now scored in 13 league games on the trot plus the two cup games against Reading. The last time we were blanked was at home to Boro - and we know all what they thought that day.

I see our 2nd goal came from a move started in the defence.
We really are now a team that can play out from any position.
Things are happening at our club now that in my 30 odd years supporting them I've never seen before.
The Bruce years came close....but there was a lot of spending there....and the Clark years were good but it was still League 1.

I'm becoming a real 'fan' again of this club....

Even when Bunn slipped he still kept possession, winning a ball he really shouldn't have. That's the spirit that will see Town get better and better.

I know it's only brief highlights but Tommy Smith looks to be growing in confidence, the lad gets dogs abuse at home games from certain fans for turning around or going sideways but he seems to be getting forward and having a dig a fair bit more these days
