Your memory is of course defective.  "Hun" is a catch all for Protestants and by extension Rangers fans often heard as:


"F#cking hun"
"Dirty hun b#stard"
etc.

It's clearly a pejorative term only used to describe one particular section of society - one which is perceived as predominantly Protestant.

The fact there are people unable to see it as such - and try to justify its continued us - is part of the problem.

i'm a protestant and I've never been called a hun in ma puff, I wid suggest its less tae dae wi' being a protestant or any form o' sectarianism and more tae dae wi' a name that rangers fans have brought on themselves,i.e. behaving like rampaging huns. I wid also suggest that rangers fans are propagating the idea that use of the term hun is sectarian to somehow justify,intheir twisted minds, their own vile outporings o' bigotry

Its not a defence, but it's always worth mentioning to highlight how hypocritical and one-sided the discourse on the subject of sectarianism is. It's also handy for demonstrating to some of those who shout loudest that their arguments are based not in a sense of decency, but in their own bigotry. And ignorance or selective definitions are no excuse for use of a term with particular connotations. I doubt you'd think it was fine to go around calling people 'xxxx' just because the word itself is derived purely from an earlier word' neger', meaning black. 'Hun is a prejudiced and sectarian term - use it as you see fit.

I use the term hun neither in ignorance nor selectively, I use it in the full knowledge of what i'm saying, and there is only one reason rangers fans are called huns,and its got nowt tae dae wi' religion or sectarianism. the only connotation connected tae the word hun is as I've stated. rangers fans themselves have put the connotation of sectarianism tae the word hun when really its all about their behaviour. sad but true. there's at least one other hibby that posts on here that is a protestant and neither of us is anti protestant,anti catholic, anti hindu or anti any other religion. what we are anti is the poison and bigotry that flows fae the stands at ibrox,and not from a minority, and punters on here are either in complete denial or just come back wi' whitabootery,and saying that you being called huns justifies it is , as I said is complete and utter bullshit

If Hibs fans are a cosmopolitan bunch then how can the songs sung at ibrox, if directed towards them, be considered sectarian? That's your argument regarding "hun" and it works both ways.
