Looking at the statistics there isn't much difference of where we were last season at this stage then where we are now.

We also followed much the same path. Off to a promising start, a bad run followed by a recovery. I've not looked it but I think we went down to 17th last season, before recovering. Same this time wasn't it?

Though I'd settle for the coincidence continuing I tend to look at 9 wins 4 draws 19 defeats keeping us safe on 51 points.

It looks easy, but if you look at Crewe on 10 points, 12 wins 5 draws 15 defeats would make them safe. They can draw at Burton, so on paper that's not a massively difficult task either.

Someone (4 someones) goes down. So the probability is someone's season is going to stay much the same and someone else's is looking at a change for the worse.

14th in the table was the lowest we fell down last season that was after drawing 0-0 away with Crewe. Last season we had a good run in August but had a very bad spell in late September and the whole of October and then didn't hit another bad spell till February where we only won 2 games in February.

I'm gonna bore you all by keeping going with this one .About 35 % win rate for Deano after 17 games. Not good .If it falls below 30 then we should be looking to make a change otherwise give him a bit more time to see if he can get it over 40.which is what we require from our manager if we are to be succesfull.

Sherwoods just been sacked with a 36% strike rate but 0% in his last 6

Theres a saying, no matter how succesfull a manger is he is no more than 6 games away from the sack .

Sat wasn't pretty but I would say it was bad luck. The ref should be shot. Jones should not have been sent off - period. It was not deliberate and he wasn't the last man. The Scunny player had pushed the ball too far forward to stand a chance of getting to it before Tommy.
Interesting comment on Bobs Board re his reluctance to book and send off some of their players as he used to work with 2 of them at Barnsley. How the hell was he officiating?

Whether Jones should have been sent off or not under the current rules, the rule is nearly as daft as some of those governing Rugby Union.

Awarding a penalty kick is presenting the attacking team with an almost certain goal. Surely that is adequate punishment for a foul, without sending off the offender for the rest of the match. If we had a sin bin then maybe ten or fifteen minutes with ten men would be a reasonable addition, but the whole of the rest of the game is simply a recipe for refereeing controversy.

This all arose out of the so-called professional foul. Fouling inside the box is specifically unprofessional. Doing it outside the box to deny a goalscoring opportunity without conceding a penalty might be "professional". The answer in this case was never a sending-off, denying a clear goalscoring opportunity should, like a foul inside the box, bring the reward of a penalty. Then spectators would then see an exciting penalty and the sending off could return to being a punishment for serious or persistent foul play.

At the moment we've framed the rules, like Rugby administrators too, so that a high percentage of matches come down to the exigencies of refereeing. Ordinary spectators like Dancing end up commenting that the ref' ruined the game ........ on several occasions each season. We all go to football to see players not referees. And if referees are placed in the position of no longer being the impartial arbiter, but the accidental or deliberate deciding influence on the game, why would people want the role? Surely football wants the guy who wants to officiate so others can enjoy playing and watching, NOT somebody who likes being the centre of attention?

Does anyone else think the league this season is piss poor compared to last season? You've got Burton, Gillingham and Walsall near the top which no one would have predicated at the start of the season and the question is how long can they remain there? I don't think we are as bad as some people think and we've just been unlucky with injuries, suspensions and referee's. If we can start playing well and putting results together I think we could be near the playoffs again come the end of the season.

Dev totally agree its a stupid and unfair rule especially when you consider its not a hard and fast rule and is left to the referees interpretation invariably. The punishment doesn't always fit the crime and its a double whammy to the offending team.A penalty should be sufficient.
There should be an amendment maybe to include a rule where ,say, if there is only one opposing player between the man with the ball and the bye line then it is deemed as a clear goalscoring opportunity a bit like the offside rule.
Or possibly give the player a sin bin style sending off for a limited time .
