Neil McIlhargey. Never heard of him, but then I wouldn't expect to have. Most importantly, Mark Warburton knows exactly who he is, what he will bring to the team and that's good enough for me. Getting his own people around him can only be good for the team.

Its all about building a network. Hopefully we will reap the rewards in time.

An unknown name to me too, but it is further consolidation of the backroom staff, Neil McIlhargey worked with MW and DW at Brentford.

Rangers are pleased to announce the appointment of Neil McIlhargey as the club’s new Head of Analysis.

Brentford were very big on statistical analysis regarding player performances and opposition strengths and weaknesses. This type of analysis is common over here, particularly in baseball where Billy Bean (Moneyball movie) at the Oakland Athletics has used this sort of analysis to some success for years. As more and more information becomes available I think we will see more of this being used and more importantly listened to as well. Rangrs will be ahead of the curve on this going forward, others will catch up, but for now I would imagine it will give them another edge over other teams in the Championship but I assume it is being set up to better cope with the prem once you get there.

Mark Warburton was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Brentford...... as in contract not renewed..............Brentford. No alarm bells ringing ??

MW and DW left Brentford because they could not accept its proposed 'management' structure ... a wise move.
From the 'Positive' thread :

Maybe their new appointee is in the MW mould ?

Skysports - New Brentford boss Lee Carsley 'has been hugely impressive'

Brentford chairman Cliff Crown says he thinks the club's new head coach Lee Carsley is an "outstanding leader".

I had to read that twice, Cliff ... ?

Full details were never released but he was definitely not surplus to requirements.  As Larry said the media put it down to a difference of opinion over the structure the owner wanted to see that iirc took some control away from Warburton, he did not want to manage under those circumstances.

If Brentford had wanted him to stay they would have accommodated him within the structure, especially given the success he had brought to the club. The fact they chose to pull the rug from under his feet appears to me (at least) that they thought they could do better without him

"Frank, Mark and David have decided, following long discussions with Matthew, that they feel unable to work under the changed structure and approach as it differs from their football philosophy."

Principles and philosophy: some people have them, some don't.
