When was the last time?
#1
No I'm not starting up a new quiz but, I was just wondering if someone could answer these questions for me?

1)  When was the last time we were top of the main football division( i.e. old 1st or Premier); even if it was only part of the way through the season and lasted only for no more than one game.

2)  When was the last time we had a player who managed to score 20 or more goals in a season for us?

3)  When was the last time we had an outfield player who was regularly selected to play for England?
And don't say Bryan Robson because he played only occasionally until he moved to Man Ure.

Food for thought isn't it.
Perhaps we are after all just a nice little championship Club. Sick

1. Was definitely after our 1-1 draw away at Norwich in January 1979.

2. Was Kevin Phillips in 2007-08 with 22 (24 including cup goals).

Thinking back to my early years as a Baggie, the answer to question 3 is probably Don Howe or maybe Derek Kevan.

Even the great Ronnie Allen hardly got a look in.

Don Howe was the perfect right-back, and had a good run in the England team at an early age. He was 1st choice through the '58 World Cup, along with Bobby Robson and Tank, until Jimmy Armfield took his shirt, and kept it. Derek 'Tank' Kevan was definitely an England regular, and so was Bobby Robson - but he returned to Fulham in about 60/61.
Barlow, Kennedy, and Allen were also Internationals in that late 50s era, but were regularly overlooked.

Since then we've only had bit-players as far as I can remember.

It's amazing that some real quality Albion players have consistantly been overlooked by England over the years.

IMO the chapter that suggests that this IS something more than just strange was when Bryan Robson went to Man Utd; for a couple of years he'd been as good as he ever was, playing for us - I remember that there was even a 'Robson for England' campaign running! He hardly got a look in....but - SURPRISE SURPRISE! As soon as he went to Old Trafford he was in, and never looked back - was an absolute regular in every game.

Who else? I know a couple DID actually play a couple of times, but that's it....
Bomber
Len Cantello
Laurie Cunningham
John Wile
Derek Statham
Cyrille Regis
Ishmael Miller

(...ok, the last one was a joke Dodgy )
I'm sure that there are heaps more that would've played for England if they'd played for a bigger club - like Villa, for example Doh
