Billy Wright always kept him out the England team.
He was a non-playing 12th man in the England-Hungary match and ran on the pitch with the magic sponge.
I'm not old enough to remember any of this first hand by the way, but I did meet Joe a few times when I was a little lad.
Great bit of trivia there, Bierzo.

Time for those irritating questions again; just to take your mind off SB's antics and the likely fall out.
1) What was unusual about Ronnie Allen's 208 league goals for Albion?
2) What is Albion's record home crowd? (to the nearest 1,000)
3) Who were they playing?
4) What unwanted record did Albion make in a match against Bristol City in 1906?
5) What did Freddie Morris achieve in the opening minute of a match against Man City in 1919?
6) How many own goals did Stan Jones score during the 1961/62 season?
7) Who was the unfortunate goal keeper?

Give us a clue, Silver.
I've got
1) all scored with backheels
2) and 3) 64,815 v Arsenal ( I knew that without looking up).
4) Bristol City played with only 5 men, and we beat them 1-0 (very similar to Stoke).
5) He scored an own goal from the kick-off, which the ref disallowed because he played the ball backwards.
6) 5 in 1 match v Ipswich
7) A very young Beast Jensen
Am I right?

1) all scored with backheels No what all 200+ of them. You can't be serious
2) and 3) 64,815 v Arsenal ( I knew that without looking up).Correct young Sir
4) Bristol City played with only 5 men, and we beat them 1-0 (very similar to Stoke). The number 5 is correct but that's all
5) He scored an own goal from the kick-off, which the ref disallowed because he played the ball backwards.Nope
6) 5 in 1 match v Ipswich No, I think he might have been dropped if that was the case.
7) A very young Beast Jensen No, he was Welsh and later got dropped for conceding 7 goals against our mortal enemy.
Am I right?
Question 2 &3 only correct in a FA Cup match.
Q1 A similar record to the lamented Steve Bull except not quite the same.

1) ALL Ronnie's goals scored in the top (1st Division). ALL from headers!!!
4) We missed 5 penalties, 5 open goals, and the 5 penalty-missers were transfer-listed for 5 hundred pounds.
5) Scored the quickest ever League goal?
6) 83?
7) Tony Millington

4) We missed 5 penalties, 5 open goals, and the 5 penalty-missers were transfer-listed for 5 hundred pounds.Now you're just being silly
5) Scored the quickest ever League goal? On the right lines but, No
6) 83? Is that during the season or just one game
7) Tony Millington At last yes, poor old Tony also conceded six goals in a reserve match against them. He wasn't arf popular. Never got another first team game.
So lads questions 4, 5 & 6 remain unanswered.
