Huddersfield Town travel east to Hull City to the KC Stadium on Saturday afternoon, for the start of another season of Championship football. It hasn't really been a good pre season, losing three of the last four to lower league opposition in Grimsby, Rochdale and Barnsley. 
We have a few new faces to look at. Aussie left back Jason Davidson has come on a free transfer from WBA. Experienced midfielder, Dean Whitehead has arrived at Town for an undisclosed fee. As has Manchester City forward, Jordy Hiwula.


How much?  
The match is all ticket and Town have been given 2,524 tickets, priced at £27 for adults, £18 for over 65s and 19-22 year olds, £15 for under 19s and £9 for under 13s.
Coaches will be departing from PPG Canalside at 12:00, priced at £13 per person.





A brief history of Hull City: Founded in 1904, they started life ground sharing with Hull FC rugby league team, as they do now. That was at The Boulevard back then, but soon moved into Anlaby Road Cricket Ground and gained admittance to the Football League in 1905/06. They were managed at that time by future Town manager, Ambrose Langley. 
They did nowt spectacular, with a 3rd place finish being their highest placing in the 2nd division until they were eventually relegated to Division 3 North in 1930. Strangely enough though, that season they reached the FA Cup semi finals, losing to eventual winners Arsenal.
In 1946, they moved into Boothferry Park and soon got promoted back to the 2nd Division. Relegations and promotions came and went over the next few years, including going down to the 4th Division. The club's decline accelerated in the 1990s and almost went under before a takeover by Adam Pearson saw them safe. This led to them leaving Boothferry Park and moving into the KC Stadium in 2003.

The move proved to be a success and by 2008, the club had been promoted all the way from the 4th tier of the FL to the Premier League. Phil Brown was the manager who took them on that final step up, beating Bristol City in the play off final at Wembley. Since then, they have been relegated, promoted again, got to the FA Cup Final and played in Europe. Last season they got relegated again after a 0-0 draw with Manchester Utd on the last day wasn't enough to save them.


The new owner of the club, a crazy Egyptian bloke called Assem Allam, wanted to change the club name from Hull City to Hull Tigers. Despite his threats to pull out if the FL didn't sanction this, they are still called City and he is still in charge.

Head to Head






Town lead in the overall head to head with 21 wins to Hull's 20, with 10 draws. That's in all competitions. In league matches it's 19 Town wins each, with 10 draws.



The last meeting of the two clubs was a couple of season's ago in the League Cup when Town fielded a boat load of reserves including the youngsters Duane Holmes, Jake Carroll, Cristian Lopez and Keith Southern. The Tigers, who were Premier League members at the time, included a couple of Town legends, Steve Harper and Alex Bruce in their starting line up and got rather lucky with a 1-0 win, with a goal from German striker Nick Proschwitz.

Hull have won the last four meetings. The last Town win came way back in September 2004 when goals from Pawel Abbott, Rob Edwards, Chris Brandon and Andy Booth gave us a 4-0 victory in League One.

Our first meeting was in our first Football League season when we beat Hull 2-0 in January 2011 at Leeds Road. Goals that day coming from James Howie and Henry Hamilton.



So what's new at the KC? 


They are managed these days by ex Town manager, Steve Bruce. He has lost five players from last season's squad. Robbie Brady left at the end of July to join Norwich for a reported £7m and on the same day they made a further £8m as defender James Chester signed for WBA.  Stephen Quinn and Liam Rosenior, who's contracts were not renewed and Tom Ince who has departed for Derby County.
On the incoming side, there is just one so far, striker Dame N'Doye who came from Locomotiv Moscow for £3m.

Last season:- Town finished 16th in the Championship table with 55 points. The Tigers finished 18th in the Premier League with just 35 points and were relegated.

Last season's leading scorer - Nikica Jelavic with 8.

Looks like we'll need to score a slack-handful to win this one as our defence seems to be just as good as the last two seasons based on some of the pre-season reports.

Would be happy with a point too. Am hoping we start better than last season. I'm not massively optimistic about this season although I'm not sure why. We finished last season with some good results from the last 6-7 matches but I have a nagging feeling we could struggle this year.

If we don't start too well, Powell could be under pressure!
