At last from the Horse's Mouth -Cook Off

As Dancing pointed out it is amazing that I find myself positively wanting the announcement to be Humphreys. I'm not sure that Wrexham, Doncaster and Crawley etc CV of Dean Saunders inspires me, but we've got to give whoever is appointed a fair chance. I was always keen on Paul Cook because he was such a nice intelligent player to watch it struck me that he must have management potential ..... on the other hand good a player as Sheri was he had something about him I didn't much like (but he came and did us a job too!)

I'd take a partnership of Humphreys and Saunders. Would worry if it were French and Saunders.

Whoever is appointed we fans will always have our own ideas. I'd have done lots of things different from Mr Cook ...... it doesn't mean they'd have worked out anything like so well. I wouldn't have taken a step backwards to Portsmouth for a start.

So Saunders has now been manager for 12 minutes.

Well he's had his chance. Let's get him!!!!!

Odd decision. Why the rush? Why not take your time and get a good manager?

He did some event at the ground fairly recently and obviously did some very effective glad-handing, or should that be networking?

He's a man I'd have expected to have some success in management, but so far he's had much more failure. But there's no way this is a rush. Chris Turner is far too machiavellian for that. To be this quick Saunders was a done deal the moment Paul Cook became a done-deal ...... dontcha think?

Significantly Turner still released players before Saunders was installed ....... and he must have known the situation.

It might be worth worrying about Mr Saunders in a parallel universe in which Chris Turner didn't exist. But the reality will concern how good a job Mr Saunders can do within the parameters Mr Turner draws for him. And it could just be that those constraints make him a better, more successful manager than ever before. He's already said one apparently good thing - that he's inheriting a strong squad. I hope his job is to add to it, but there's no doubt he's facing a tough job, because I imagine his arrival will coincide with some of our team wanting out. Morsy and Clucas would fetch in money we need and Mr Turner holds our purse strings.

We're looking at a strange season, so soon after an excellent one. I'd never have predicted Saunders arrival, though looking at our website's rave over his talk, perhaps I should've been picking up the secret messages. Still tomorrow we might find out we're signing Jamie Ward and Leon Clarke to play up front and optimism would burst out all over Whttington Moor.

Agree 100% Dev. Ryan was going come what may and I think Drew had no intention of staying put. Saunders inherits a strong squad with 3 or 4 weak links. Harrison and Mani are 2 that need to sharpen up or go. We need a replacement for Ryan asap and an early appointment gives the new man a chance to bring in 1 or 2 of his own.

A lot of fans think because he's cheap and the club won't have to pay Compo but Dave Allen said that's rubbish.

I know who I believe regarding the cheap option .
I agree Dev,but was it CT who decided to let Gnanduillet and Talbot go ? .I'm guessing Saunders has probably been involved for a good few weeks .He probably did his interview during his visit for the After dinner speaking night .Would love Wardy back but there's more chance of me playing .

Saunders has taken teams to the top of divisions then they always blow out. Mostly relegation features.

The reasons for Saunders will be known to Chris Turner. They might be excellent or wholly discreditable. Certainly Mr Turner is no one's fool ..... but trustworthy would not feature in the Pointless adjectives used to describe him. I can own up to having misread Mr Turner's intentions 100%. I've spent two seasons believing the only reason we signed Humphreys from Hartlepool was that he would eventually replace Mr Cook as Manager. WRONG!

It could just be Saunders is happier being a poodle than Mr Turner's apparent friend Humphreys. But then I'm not totally convinced of Mr Turner's capacity for friendship.
