One Year on with Pepe

Interesting reading, sacked because he wanted rid of half the first team.  Was he right? Wink

Now cruising with Real Betis once more

Felt sorry for him really. A lot of the fans liked him and he really appreciated the support of fans. Top bloke and played football the right way, passing with high pressure. Maybe that's why these Spanish teams and national team are much more successful. Wished he was given more time and a chance to build the squad himself, as I do believe we would have seen some very good players come to the hawthorns and a lot of attractive football. What he wanted to imply would have taken time and unfortunately he wasn't given the chance to make it work.

Unfortunately Pepe lost the dressing room and should have been backed by the Board when those players went over his head.

Just pleased that he is now doing well at his spiritual home.

IMO the whole point is that, having hired Pepe Mel, we (as a club, that is) should've backed him. His football philosophy, his language barrier, and his vision should ALL have been known and recognised by the board - that's why he was hired.

I still feel disappointed and embarrased by the way he was treated by our club; personally I think that, given a little time and a free hand to bring in the players that would (or could) play in his style, he'd have got us playing great football and we'd probably be sitting in about the same position as we are now.....but playing in a more WBA-type way.

We'll never know, of course, but it's great to see him doing so well again Thumb up Thumb up

It's fair enough to have some sympathy for Pepe but not really fair enough to compare doing well in the Spanish 2nd division to doing well in the Premier League.

The guy was out of his depth. That was plain enough to see....and of course, if it had worked for him then we wouldn't have the benefit of Tony Pulis at the Albion.... Whistle

Any Manager who doesn't have the backing of both his employers and the staff he/she is meant to organise, is bound to be out of his/her depth.

Many years ago, I had a handful of staff who went over my head (behind my back) to my own Manager.

It's not a pleasant experience and fortunately never happened again.

There is a posibility, of course, that Pepe 'lost' the backing of his employers once they realised the mistake they had made. After all, it was Pepe himself that allowed McDoughnut to run riot and consequently lost the players.

Jus sayin.

I gotta say I agree with Silver here. Pepe was such a passionate guy who wanted fast flowing high pressure football. Unfortunately to paraphrase Joey barton I think there were bad eggs in that dressing room who to be blunt either couldn't be arsed to do as he asked or simply couldn't if they tried. Add to that the language barrier (and god bless him for trying from day 1 to communicate with the press and us fans) he was on to a loser.

The added fact to all that is the club chased him and then let him down massively by not backing him in any request one iota. I think that was disgusting to be honest and still feel quite ashamed by it all.

Glad he's back where he's adored and doing well. I for one really liked him and was quite upset when he was moved on. He did what was asked of him, he kept us in the premier league and I for one am very grateful for that. Thumb up

I'd welcome him back here any day of the week. Its clear from his twitter that he loves the club and if at some point down the line he fancies another crack at it, after TP has established us as a secure midtable side and our potential new owners have a bit of cash to transition us into a more expansive team, then I'd welcome him with open arms.
