WBA vs Leicester - "Astle Day" Match Thread
I don't agree the football under Irvine was better. The Everton and Newcastle performances
under Irvine were the worst I've seen at home since the dark ages. Nothing created, terrible
at the back and completely spineless.

Under Pulis we at least give it a go and have picked up some decent results at home, considering
we couldn't buy a home win under the previous few regimes.

That said, I didn't at all agree with Pulis' decision to bring on Olsson when they were all over us.
I thought Leciester's weakness was at the back and by trying to shut up shop, we played to
their strengths.

Overall though, I think we have to come to the realisation that our squad isn't that good. Bog
standard centre midfielders on the wing, a striker who thrives on playing on the defender's
shoulder playing 'in the hole' and a midfielder and centre half at full back.

Today was a game where those playing out of position, who have done okay up to now, got
exposed. Saido was blind to the pass when he could've slipped Gardner in, while Brunt and
Dawson, particularly Dawson, showed they can be easily got at in the one on one situations.

We don't seem to have the depth or quality and to be honest, our recruitment and organisation
has been a farce since the Odemwingie saga. Like last year, if we do stay up, it'll simply be
because there are some terrible teams in this league - not because we have made any progress.

Forgot to add that Gardner is a useless waste of space and Lescot just looks slow and weak.
Again we were shite it defence. Useless in the air and toothless upfront.
Just looking at Palace away but not gonna bother cos £32 and a bugger to get to.

If the Match today could not inspire "The Team" on then "Abandon hope all ye who enter here". Or words to that extent. DD is seriously pissed off with His Albion. Shame on all of you. DD Angry Angry
Ubique.

That was a disgrace. Fact is that as fans we will feel more pain than any of those who wore that shirt today. If the biggest crowd and one of the most significant days in recent years is not enough to inspire them then what hope have we got. I now feel vindicated in my dismay at the appointment of Tony Pulis. If Jeremy Peace thought hiring him was going to build value in this club then he was f**king deluded.
Bonum vinum laetificat cor hominis.

Really good post, hitting several nails on the head. Our DofF Terry Burton has to go this summer, and Mervyn Day's going to be under scrutiny.

Hi Folks,

Travelled up yesterday from the wilds of Suffolk with my Grandson. Enjoyed the occasion, emotion and atmosphere but oh dear the result. It must be embedded in Albion culture that we have to make things difficult, now in my sixties been the same all through the years, whenever we have had a golden opportunity we cock it up. Why oh why did we sit back and let them come at us, bad subtition to bring Olson on, it was crying out for invention, not sitting back. Time to let Olson go me been thinking that for a few seasons now backs off to much for me. Noticed in the group of ex players yesterday the name of Stan Jones played n the early days of Jeff at centre half if in doubt kick it out usually to row Z and that was just the player.

Back to Astle Day have to admit had a few tears as I was with my Grandson and I used to go with my Granddad. Explaining to Rian that I remember well Jeff's first home game 5-1 against the Wolves, Granddad saying to me we bought a good un ere referring to Jeff. Can we say that about our two forwards yesterday, think not, long way to go, not fit to tie Jeff,s boot laces, different times I know. We both left gutted and penny less in the club shop, but enjoyed the memories, hey that's Albion and always will be. Still think we will be okay and pick up points we never expected as I say it is engrained we do it the hard way.

Went to the game and was amazed by the players AND the management.
Most of the players yesterday showed no heart or spirit and looked completely NOT up to even Championship standa .. IMO Boaz and Mozza were the only 2 that looked even decent.
I'm a Pulis fan but the way he set the team up to play AGAIN THE BOTTOM CLUB, AT HOME, was a disgrace. This was then made worse by the stupid timing of the stupid substitutions - the hand was crying out for Sessegnon and Mac at half time, FFS. OLLSON?? !

I honestly don't mind losing if we've had a good go but are beaten by a good side, but to be outfought and outplayed by the bottom team ,, at home, on such an iimportant day is a disgrace and makes me really worried about the rest of the season.

Agree totally Stairs; like Ska'd my life long love of football is being diluted with every sorry excuse of a performance.

There seem to be very few of our present crop of players that are up for a fight and frankly many simply don't deserve the wages they are being paid.

I don't think that we need to worry about TP's position should new owners be found.

A few more results and performances like the last two games and JP won't be able to give the Club away let alone make a fortune.
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.

The sad truth is that some of our players are pussies even if they're strong, Berahino has class but let's compare him and Morrison.

Saido seems stronger than him and he uses it well but why does he never go for headers? Morrison really puts in everything and performs very well sometimes, he'd be even better on the right because he wouldn't get trapped so often.

I really like Berahino because he clearly has class and has done well playing out of position at times and a lot of people have been too harsh saying that he doesn't work, he's quite a hard worker but he could do more, I expect him to leave this summer but I have no idea where. I'd much rather keep him because I don't trust us to find a competent striker.
