Astle goals aplenty:

I always remember critics of Jeff Astle saying that all he could do was head the ball, that he was useless with his feet. Some of the goals he scored though - including several in Ska'ds clip there - showed a real skill on the ground and a real ability to surprise a keeper by squeezing the ball through the smallest gap or hitting the ball - a very HEAVY ball - early. Indeed, THE FA Cup Final goal showed a dexterity that shut a lot of those critics up when he shot first with his right, the ball rebounded back and he instinctivly hit a lovely shot to win the game with his left.

A very underrated player as far as most non Baggies are concerned he may have been, but WE know just how good he was, as a player and as a man. RIP The King Thumb up Peace dove

Just watching that video especially, the flight and bounce of the ball, it reminded me just how heavy those ball were. That thud when it hit your head and it felt like you were heading a hard ball of water, not to mention when it hit you in the "families". It is easy to see the damage it could cause doing it on a constant basis.

Good Luck for the launch of the Jeff Astle Foundation

Yeah it looked so different to modern football, is 'families' commonly used for that meaning?

A draw was the best result imo, Villa really in the shit but we are no closer to the bottom three. Tbh if we can't get anything from Leicester or Palace then we are a joke and deserve to go down.

Sadly, there's a lot of truth in that statement, and you can add Newcastle to that list. All three will be extremely tough and worrying.

Saturday is going to be a party, all the players, if they don't know already, will know when they walk out on the pitch, how much it means as well. I don't think anyone will want to let the side down that day and will all play out of their skins (they better anyway).

1-0 to the Baggies with whoever wears the number 9 shirt scoring the winner in true Astle style, though I would make do with an easy 3-0.
