These seem to be the top 8 in the betting at present.

Erik Ramsey - hot favourite at evens. I don’t know much about him!
Lee Carsley - similar to Mason, not enough experience.
Hassenhuttl - interesting candidate
Gary O’Neil - not for me thanks
Russell Martin - not convinced by him, thought he was lucky to get Southampton promoted
Michael Carrick - ex middlesboro
Slaven Bilic - ex manager of WBA.
Carlos Corberan - would only happen if he gets sacked by Valencia.

Who would I want.

Hassenhuttl for me. Carrick second,

but also want to know a bit more about Ramsey!

Or is there a left field choice, we used to be good at keeping it all under wraps till the last moment.

Who do you want?

Russell Martin, absolutely not!!
Lee Carsley is anything but similar to Mason with quite a bit of experience particularly with the England set up. He is certainly a decent shout in my opinion.
Ramsey, don’t know much about him but from what I’ve read he ‘could’ also be a decent shout depending on what the ambition is for the remainder of this season.
Not a great believer in a manager going back to a previous club, nearly always fails miserably, so no to Bilic and Corberan even though I liked them both.
Hassenhuttl possibly, but don’t see it happening, and Carrick has his eyes on other options.
Gerrard, please please no!! and Gary O’Neil is a complete non starter.
It’s all about opinions and we’ll all have our preferred choice, but for me it’s Carsley.
But no matter it’s an appointment that needs to be made ASAP.

Of those stated I think Carsley would get the nod as my proffered choice, though when is the person appointed ever in the first tranche of betting odds? Personally I can't see him coming. Wasn't he on the shortlist last time around? I think he wants the big job with his current employer and would you move away from a very successful career with your current employer with the chance of future promotion, to manage this team? So he might be favourite but I'll believe it when I see it, (with my prediction form he is guaranteed to get the the job now Big Grin )

This Ramsay bloke is getting a lot of attention today and we've APPARENTLY made contact.
IMHO... no! We need an experienced head.

The list is pretty uninspiring to be honest.

Definitely wouldn't want Bilic back. Wouldn't want Russel Martin or Gary O'Neil for different reasons. I think Corberan has had his time too.

As for the others, I'd put most of them in the "punt" category. Little-to-no senior managerial experience, so you could flick a coin if they will succeed or fail. Same as Ryan Mason.

This Eric Ramsay fella must have a good agent. Last week he was going to Strasbourg (part of the Chelsea group) to replace Rosenior. Now he's apparently coming here. Not bad job links for someone totally unknown who has never played the game and spent just a couple of years managing a mid table MLS side.

Being honest, I don't think we're particularly appealing to anyone except a "punt". Our squad is pretty poor and financially we don't have any cash to splash. With that in mind, I don't really have a preference on which punt we go for. Carsley did well in the England setup but is untried as a club manager. Carrick did well at Boro, then poorly and got sacked. Ramsay, I'd never heard of prior to today. Any could go well or badly, but I don't think we could do much worse than Mason tbh.

With the exception of Ted Lasso, I’m not sure how many USA experienced coaches have made a successful transition into the English leagues. I appreciate Ramsay is not American and does have prior coaching experience in England, but so did Ryan Mason.

I think of the names mentioned I’d prefer Lee Carsley. Admittedly his positive track record is not in day-to-day club management but I think he’s demonstrated his ability to handle pressure. As has been previously mentioned, his style and approach seem to be very different to Ryan Mason’s. Whilst he may be hanging out for the England job, I suspect that is a few years/tournaments away and being Albion manager didn’t do Woy any harm.

However, as we are the Baggies, we’ll just have to accept whoever is appointed. Let’s face it, no appointment will be a bad as Alan Pardew

I think we should have stuck with Mason..reports on three quarters of our ges says we had a better team  though like the last game 8 shots I goal, whereas the other team 3 shots 2 goals..

So it's the forwards and stupid defending who let him down, thugh his player choice was a bit suspect...

I held this opinion for quite a while, we were frequently the better team in a lot of our games in terms of possession and shots, however the inability to turn possession into shots, shots into shots on target, then turning shots on target into goals. Is a managerial tactic / decision failure.
Whilst at the other end, our substandard goalkeepers lead to lack of confidence in defence, poor decision making and sloppy goals being given away, our inability to defend and defend properly until the final whistle has cost us late late goals and dropped points.
These issues and player selections are the result of poor management and the inability to find a solution is down to Mason. He should have been gone weeks ago in order to give us the best opportunity to get the new man in, in time for him to build a squad to rectify these problems and give us a chance of achieving our end goal …… promotion …….. through whichever route we can.

Paul Simonis for me for a real shake up of the club, playing structure and mentality. Won’t happen though as they’ll go for another younger British coach like Ramsay, Carsley or Carrick.

Off the list, I’d probably say Hassenhüttl, as long as it’s the Hassenhüttl of his younger coaching days rather than the one of recent years. The one who had an identity to his ideas and style (433/442, extreme pressing, fast, exciting football) and who wanted to take risks.

I've just read an article on Ramsay...... although even younger than RM he's always had coaching - not playing - ambitions.... he's done stints as assistant coach, now head coach, and he's very well thought of in many circles.
Hmmmm.....
