WBA vs Sheff Wed & Charlton - Match Thread

One woe doth tread upon another's heel, as Queen Gertrude remarked; if only we could make one win tread upon another's heel every once in a while, a lot of our current woes would go up in smoke. Sadly, since our handy home win against Preston a fortnight ago we've suffered back to back defeats on the road, and so it's back to the drawing board in tomorrow's early kick-off. Visitors Sheffield Wednesday admittedly have it worse by far, presently on a four match losing streak and six games winless, with the season's solitary league win coming at Pompey and a 12 point deduction rounding off the misery. But as the move into administration rids the club of Dejphon Chansiri's toxic ownership, it still has the potential to be a new leaf turned for the Owls, and they really have little to lose by having a good old go at us in tomorrow's encounter. For Albion, huffing and puffing to average a goal a game, a repeat of the Preston showing is what we need to put a poor two weeks behind us.

A trip to current playoff contenders Charlton follows on Tuesday evening, promising us very little based on our recent form. Three points from this week is a must if we're not to see our downward slide continue.

If all goes according to form and capability you should easily win this one. Our team is 4/5 decent players mixed with academy/U21s. We struggle to score and make silly mistakes at the back!!

On the other hand, this is football and there are reasons we love the sport, one of which is hope, and that’s the only thing we have currently!!

It’s been a tough few years but this week is the start of a new beginning, a new era filled with reality, relief, joy and a heavy dose of hope for the future of our club. We are selling out games, spending tons of money in the club shop and contributing to money raising efforts to allow the administrator focus on finding us an owner that matches our passion for the club.

Football, ya gotta love it!!!

Do you think the coach will ever play two up front? I’m beginning to think not, even though it would seem his preferred formation isn’t working. I wonder what it will take to change his mind? Nothing less than a win today will be acceptable to the fan base I would suggest; if that doesn’t happen, will we see the first signs of mutiny?

We know the feeling, SCO, after suffering with a seemingly football hating buffoon of an owner for a few years recently!
All the best to you lot (after today of course) Blush

Oh dear - 60 mins.... 10 - 1 shots (on target 5 - 1), 60% possession..... a dead cert for the ol' sucker punch breakaway goal in the 80-something minute Confused

0-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday FFS ?‍♂️
We could well be in a relegation battle come the New Year if we continue playing like this.

Well I have defended Mason over and over saying give him time, but that quote comes to mind, "The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".

I couldn’t agree with you more!
He keeps saying ‘we need to learn..’ but then repeats his mistakes. Very disappointing.

Wednesday game was a tough watch.

I sympathise with Mason to a small degree, because we are desperately short of quality in some areas. Particularly the middle of the park with the injuries.

However, surely the lads we have available can be coached to pass forward first.

We have far too many players who are happy playing the percentages. Safe passes. Scared out of their wits to go forward and risk giving the ball away.

I've been saying for some time that Mikey Johnston is the only player who really seems to want to create, score and win matches. Sometimes with his direct play, he gives the ball away or makes a mistake and he's been in and out of the team as a result. But he should be the first name on the teamsheet for his will to win. Something that is desperately lacking in our squad and football generally, with the modern day robot seemingly unaware that constantly passing square and backwards will not win you matches.

However, Mason does needs to recognise that he needs to change something in midfield. Something which he appears to be totally blind to at present. Price isn't a number 10 and isn't impacting games enough for someone in a free role, despite his goal return. Surely at home against side who sit deep ike Wednesday did, hPrice could drop deeper to play next to Mowatt and we could've played with an extra attacker, either Grant or another striker. Diakite is just a waste of space in my eyes, I'd love to see our stats in the games he's started because I don't remember us winning one.

Having just seen the team and set up for tonight, I think I’ll watch Bake Off.
