I've been trying to think of other occasions when we've been involved in games that have completely turned around in added on time. And I can only think of two. One we one and one we lost.
Back in 1981/82, we played Brighton and Hove Albion in the League Cup 2nd round over two legs. As today, they were in the top flight and we were in the third tier, so a Town win would've been a major giant killing.
We won the first leg at Leeds Road 1-0 with Terry Austin on target. In the second leg, we still led 1-0 on aggregate in the 90th minute. Brighton then scored twice in injury time to not only deny us a crack at 30 minutes extra time, but knock us out of the Milk Cup.
Fate was in our favour a few years later in the FA Cup when we played Cambridge United of the Conference League in an FA Cup first round replay at the Galpharm Stadium. We'd had a goal less draw ten days previously at the Abbey Stadium and a crowd of just 3,766 turned up for the replay. One of the lowest recorded attendances at the new ground saw the U's take a 1-0 lead after half time and still held that lead as the fourth official held aloft his magic numbers board.
We had been very poor that night, but then two late goals from Lee Peltier and Gary Roberts took us through to the second round. This was the season that we went to round 4 and almost won at Arsenal.
Can any of you think of any more? There was that Scunthorpe game in 2003/04, but those late McAliskey goals were in the 87th and 90th minutes. Not panicking at all that day.
