Barnsley v Huddersfield Town

Our sixth match of the season sees us travel to Barnsley. This is also our second match of the Yorkshire League. I think theo_luddite is keeping track of that.
We are second in the table and Barnsley are doing OK, too, in 6th.
That said, both our sides can wobble by the second half of the season. We're neither of us strangers to cocking it up.
Still, make hay whilst the sun shines. Another win could see up top.

This is how their results have gone so far:

They've chalked up 8 goals in the League but one was an og v Plymouth.
Who's scoring?

Head to head
Last year was the first season back in the same league and all results went our way, including the FL Trophy.

Ben Wiles scored in both the League games and Jon Russell got their only goal for them. The other two scorers Kasumu and Koroma. Ther FL Trophy scorers were Ward and Ladapo.

League highlights last season:

Who's the manager?
Conor Hourihane was promoted from assistant to head coach in March 2025 following the departure of Darrell Clarke.
Hourihane is originally from Ireland and started his playing career at Sunderland, oddly enough. He's had two spells as a player at Barnsley. The last one segwayed into his management role.

Talking of coaches; one of our assistant coaches, Paul McShane, had a brief spell on loan at Barnsley in 2011.

Others with club connections include Adam Hammill, Jack Hunt, Matty Pearson, Antony Kay, Danny Drinkwater, Kallum Higginbotham, Jacob Butterfield, Dean Gorre, and Michal Helik. Lets face it, there are loads!
Sorry, couldn't get the other images to save. Doh  Spot the pillocks. I miss Michal and Matty.

A Celebration of Women's Suffrage in Barnsley
Celia Wray was born in Barnsley and qualified as an architect. Her father was twice Mayor of Barnsley. As well as protesting outside the Barnsley Chronicle offices in 1910, she defaced the 1911 census. She was a member of the Barnsley Women's Suffrage Society and was the secretary from 1908 to 1920. With Alice Emberton (her partner), Evelina Hadfield, and Vera Holme, she founded the Foosack League, a lesbian secret society. She eventually settled in Suffolk.

Donny also home to Rotherham, so a brace of Yorksha League matches on Saturday. That just leaves Sadfud to join in at some point.
How will Sarf Yorksha coppers cope? Banning orders and arrests for looking like you're going to a protest march all round I suppose.

I'm expecting some Town razzle, dazzle in the 2nd half. What have we got to lose apart from our goal difference?

Doesn't sound like we're getting much though ...... Sad
