Not a bad result I suppose, but a real stale performance.

How we can go from playing such good, incisive football against West Ham, to just
hoofing it anywhere is beyond me. The gap between the forwards and the midfielders
was obscene and on the few chances we had to counter, couldn't even string a pass
together.

Still, maintained our ground on them at least.

As said earlier - the FA Cup freedom is very different from the pressure of a relegation battle. Lets hope we can steal a point at least from Southampton and feel a little freer before the Villa matches.

Guess we consider that the catching of breath before the next onslaught starting with Saints next weekend. A point away with no goal conceded so fine by me

It's a good question Slick, but Sunderland were at home and needed a result even more than we did and showed more fight than West Ham, which all makes it more difficult for us. We got lucky with the no sending off of Joleon Lescott, Yacob's pushing and shoving in the box and the disallowed goal. If I have one criticism, it's that I would have kept the same starting XI as against West Ham, but a point's a point, we increased our distance to the bottom three by that point, and we had another clean sheet.
Oh, and Ron Vlaar got sent off as Villa were 'Stoked' in the last minute. Delighted for Tim Sherwood.

Point of order m'lord.....how can ANY team "string a pass together"? Blush

Agree with what your saying tho Slick - but a point is a point; would ratheer have that than play pretty tap-tap and lose at the moment Thumb up

Another game undefeated. Another clean sheet. We won't always look world-beaters but carry on as we are and I'll be delighted.

Regardless of a great point, was this played for? For the away supporters - us - they deserve their money back. Angry

How can we go from brilliant to under mediocre?

I really thought we could win this game and predicted Ideye and Berahino/Sess scoring. What what I saw of the game, we barely made a chance in 90mins.

Was it the 'Pulis Plan' to sit deep and offer nothing other than defending? If so, I find it difficult to accept that we can play brilliantly as we did against West Ham and pretty well against Swansea so why change the game plan or was it forced on us by the Mackems?

If we perform like that against Vile, we'll be out of the cup.

Huh

Off topic I know but see Dozza had 10mins for Norwich in their 3-0 win at Watford and George Thorne managed 62mins for Derby before being subbed.

Just noticed, Vile drop to next from bottom !!!!
Ho, ho, ho !
