Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of John McAtee on a three-year deal from Luton Town.

The forward becomes the eighth player to join the club this summer.

McAtee, 25, spent last season on loan in League One at Barnsley, where he scored 15 goals in 45 appearances.

"It’s a huge signing for us as we’ve had to fight off a lot of competition to get him," Bolton manager Ian Evatt told the club's website, external.

McAtee, whose younger brother James is at Manchester City, never played a game for Luton, after a previous spell on loan at Grimsby Town before his Barnsley stint.

Wales midfielder Josh Sheehan has agreed a new contract to keep him at Bolton Wanderers until the summer of 2027.

Sheehan's current deal was due to run out at the end of this season, but he has signed on for two more years at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The 29-year-old joined Bolton from Newport County in the summer of 2021 and has made 124 appearances and scored 12 goals.

Sheehan has 10 Wales caps and he started both of the recent Nations League games at home to Iceland and away to Turkey.

Sheehan has been part of the Bolton side that reached the League One play-offs in each of the last two seasons and won the EFL Trophy in 2023.

The Whites are currently 11th in the table, but the midfielder - who has started 13 of Bolton's 14 league games - believes that he can be successful with Ian Evatt's side.

"I want to achieve things with this football club and this allows me an even greater opportunity to do that," he told the club's website, external.

“I believe this season can still be a successful one and hopefully that will only be the start of more good times for myself and the club.

Bolton Wanderers have signed midfielder Joel Randall from Peterborough United on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 25-year-old began his career with Exeter City and came through their academy, going on to make 45 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Randell, who joins Bolton as their first signing of the January transfer window for an undisclosed fee, made 109 appearances for Posh after arriving in 2021.

"We worked very hard to try and get him here in the summer. It ended up being unachievable, but things change quickly in football and once we knew we had the potential to make it happen we wanted to work quickly to try and secure his services," Wanderers boss Ian Evatt said.

"It's a big signing for us, short and long term. He's a top player who can play in a number of different positions which is important for us.

"We feel the role Paris [Maghoma] played for us in particular last season, being able to receive the ball in tight spaces, dribble, break down low blocks and create, is Joel's game, so he's going to add a lot to us."

Randall scored 12 goals for Peterborough last season including against Bolton on the final day of the season to help his side reach the play-offs.

He also won the EFL Trophy at Wembley for Darren Ferguson's side last term, while he has scored seven goals in 25 appearances in all competitions this season.

The 25-year-old was left out of the Peterborough squad at the end of September with Ferguson stating the midfielder was "not happy at the club" but he returned to the first-team fold in October.

League One club Bolton Wanderers have signed midfielder Xavier Simons on a four-year deal from Championship side Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old joined the Tigers, initially on loan, from Chelsea in September 2022 and made the move permanent the following year.
