First of all, sorry if I seemed grumpy yesterday. Had a hard days work in the morning, coming home to hear nothing but bad news of which I won't bore you with the details. That's why I haven't commented on the match yet apart from just posting the words "absolutely appalling" at half time.
Have to admit, we've looked a lot worse that that recently. But one shot and only 18% possession ain't that good, is it?
We did have a couple of rabbit in the headlights moments from Koroma and Headley, which I never had confidence that they would score. The highlights package couldn't even be bothered to show Koroma's one on one.
But the second half was much better. After the crowd had given DM an earful of "yer don't know wot yer doing" when he brought on another defender when our only recognised striker went off injured, he must've had some wise words to say at the break. One of them strangely was to play left back Headley completely out of position, which was kind of working until he got injured as well.
Burgzorg, who the grumpy spectators had wanted on in place of Harratt in the first half, eventually came on and did his impression of a poor man's van La Parra again. Matty Pearson became right wing back and then out and out striker just missing a beautiful cross from Ben Jackson near the end of the game. Fortunately, not only did Pearson miss it, but the Southampton keepre missed it as well and the ball nestled nicely in the far corner of the net.
As for the Saints. For a team that was in the Prima Donna League last season, they were rubbish! Should've had us buried long before half time, but a mixture of bad fininshing and lack of ambition, gave the Terriers hope. I was singing "how shit must you be, it's only one nil" in my own head at half time. And daft as it may sound, we were unlucky not to win it in the end. A couple of 50p head headers from Sorba and Helik late on. If they'd gone it it would've been an unlikely three points for Darren Moore's brave lads
I'm still not convinced, but willing to be upbeat about our chances on Wednesday night at Sunderland.
I'd like to second theo's words about Chris Marsden. A superb midfielder, as good as any we've had since, including Mooy, O'Brien and Hogg. If we ever pick a team of the 90's, he'd be the first name on the team sheet.
