Swans by the Sea
Saturday sees us travel to 14th placed Swansea.
Last weekend saw us crawl out of the bottom three for the first time since August. We even gained another place to take us to 19th on Monday despite losing our 2-1 advantage late on against Blackburn.
Middlesbrough v Norwich on Friday can't change either of our standings but the 12.30 match between Sheffield Utd and Cardiff City could piddle on our parade and drop us a place by kick-off if the Bluebirds win or even draw.
However, it appears that we've got more neck than Cyril so lets go for it and get ourselves closer to safety without having to rely on others (but you know we will... SBT is never far away!)

Comedy Villains
Swansea were managed by Steve Cooper until 2021 when he got his P45 left by mutual consent after failing to take them up in the play-offs. Of course he went on to manage Forest. Villain status activated.
Successor to the Pooperscooper and current manager of Swansea is Russell Martin. If you want to elevate him to comedy villain status, he played for Peterborough and supports Leeds.
Club Connections
Paul Reid from Oldbury (we stayed in a Premier Inn there) had 77 appearances for us between 1994 and 1997 and 20 for Swansea from 2002 to 2003. In addtion, he managed their academy from 2013 to 2019 before finishing his managerial career at Forest Geen Rovers' academy. I believe he's made an appearance or two on our media channel and that he's the one on the left in this photo with Neil Warnock. Probably is because he was with us for the promotion from L2 to L1 in 1995. In fact, if you look on his wiki page, this is listed as the greatest achievement of his career!
Jazz Richards was on a short-term loan with us from Swansea in 2013.
Steve Jenkins transferred from Swansea to us in 1995 having made an impressive 165 appearances since 1990. He stayed with us until 2003 with an even more impressive 258 appearances although it included a period out on loan to Birmingham City from 2000 to 2001.

Huddersfield born Julian Winter played for Town from 1984 to 1989. After retiring, he got a degree and went into the business side of football. He was Chief Executive at Town from 2016 to 2020 before becoming Chairman at Swansea in the same year. Part of our downturn?

Swansea musicians and bands

The Bystanders, later Man. Don't know them but obviously seen the film this song of theirs was used in.

Cerys Matthews whilst with Catatonia. She's great.

Yeah, successful in the B team. He made his debut for the first team this season but got booked and was subbed off. If I remember we thought he might have been sent off if not subbed. He was then sent on loan to Dundee Utd.

Just looked him up on wiki. He was sent off in his first match for them!

Quote:Ayina made his senior debut for Huddersfield Town on 7 January 2023, when he played in their 3–1 FA Cup defeat against Preston North End, where he received an early yellow card, and was substituted before half-time, for fear of a second yellow card.[7]

On 31 January 2023, Ayina joined Dundee United on loan until the end of the 2022–23 season.[8] He was sent off on his debut, against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup.[9]

Nice one AmChaff, nice and to the point again, unlike my rants on occasions.

The Pye record label, my that brings back some memories from when ar' wer' no'but a lad. The Kinks, Pet Clarke, early Quo, shoeless Sandie Shaw. The teenage girls next door that did the baby sitting for us wee 'uns had piles of these (well maybe not Quo at that time) and old green and silver Columbia label singles. I was too young to read but somehow I could pick out every song and play it on their little record player. I should have been a DJ. I could have rivalled Dave Double-Decks. Big Grin Now if I could only remember what I was thinking about last week that needed doing sometime this week ..... Whistle

I had a lot of these green and silver Columbia singles, mainly thanks to The Shadows. I saw Status Quo in Hawick Town Hall in 1970, where they played "Gerdundula" which started life as a 3-minute track and they developed it live to a 20-minute instrumental add-on with classical tunes, tv adverts, film songs, etc, all in their trademark hard-driving style. Now those were the days my friend. Cool Well, I thought I was cool. Rolleyes

Well someone is thought to be missing or doubtful due to illness but it doesn't say who or if there is more than one. Better not be Pearson as he's our prolific goal scorer

It's looking like Cardiff will still be below us (kiss-of-death forecast) before we kick off.

Cardiff losing 4-1 to Sheffield Utd worsens their goal difference. May come in useful if it comes down to shifting places on the last day.
