Newport County have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Sam Bowen from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.
Bowen, 21, will be the League Two club's first summer signing.
The Wales under-21 international follows in the footsteps of his father Jason, who played for both Cardiff and Newport as well as Swansea.
Bowen will be reunited with James Rowberry, who coached him at Cardiff before becoming Newport boss in October 2021.
"I worked with him for 10 years during our time at Cardiff which makes me fully aware of his capabilities and what he can bring to the football club," Rowberry said.
"His style of play suits us well and I have no doubt that he can be a continuation of our processes as we move forward, going into the forthcoming season."
The deal for Bowen will be officially confirmed on 10 June, but Rowberry said: "I am excited for the club, Sam and Sam's family on getting this deal over the line.
"I cannot wait to start work on the training pitch in preparation for next season."
Bowen, who spent time on loan with Barry Town in the Cymru Premier, made five appearances for Championship club Cardiff during the 2021-22 campaign.
But his progress last season was hampered by a foot injury.
Jason Bowen made 172 appearances for Newport, scoring 55 goals between 2004 and 2008 having spent five years with Cardiff City.

Newport County will sign winger Will Evans when his contract with Bala Town expires next month.
The 24-year-old former Cardiff Met player has enjoyed an impressive season in the Cymru Premier for Bala, scoring 11 goals in 24 games.
Evans' form saw him make his debut for the Wales C side, as he netted a brace in a 4-0 triumph over England.
"We have been observing Will's progression over a period of time now," Newport manager James Rowberry said.
"He has shown a real hunger in wanting to join our club. Will gives us another dimension within our attacking department."
The deal for Evans to join the League Two side will be completed officially on 10 June when the summer transfer window opens.
Evans becomes Newport's second signing in three days after the club secured Sam Bowen from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

Newport County have signed Cardiff City striker Chanka Zimba on a season-long loan.
Zimba spent the second half of last season on loan at Northampton Town, where he scored once in 12 appearances, only two of which were starts.
Zimba, 20, has played one senior game for Cardiff, in the Championship win at Preston North End in November 2021.
"I'm really pleased to welcome Chanka to Newport County," said Exiles boss James Rowberry.
"He's proved he can score goals at under-23 level and had a loan spell at Northampton last season, being part of the squad that made the play-offs.
"I'd like to thank Cardiff City in their support to making this happen."
Zimba joined Cardiff from Blackburn in September 2020 and signed a new long-term deal in August 2021.
He scored nine goals for Cardiff's under-23s last season before joining Northampton, who were beaten in the League Two play-off semi-finals.
Zimba follows another Cardiff youngster, Sam Bowen, in agreeing a move to Newport this summer.
Former Cardiff first-team coach Rowberry is also signing Bala Town winger Will Evans.

Newport County have signed ex-Cardiff City midfielder Aaron Wildig from Morecambe ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The 30-year-old midfielder joins on a free transfer after turning down a new contract.
Wildig played for Cardiff from 2009 to 2012 and joined the Shrimps from Shrewsbury Town in 2015 where he led the side and made 248 appearances.
"Aaron brings a wealth of experience to our attacking department and the team," said Newport boss James Rowberry.
"Having two promotions on his CV, along with his leadership qualities, I'm really looking forward to working with Aaron."

Newport County have agreed an undisclosed deal with Coventry City for the transfer of Declan Drysdale.
The Birkenhead-born centre back started his career at Tranmere Rovers where he was part of the squad that earned promotion back to the Football League in 2018 before signing for Coventry.
Drysdale, 22, also helped Cambridge United to promotion while on loan with the League Two side in 2021.
He spent last season on loan with Scottish Premiership side Ross County.
"Declan at 22 already has two promotions on his CV and has really good experience within senior football for his age," said Newport manager James Rowberry.
"He brings a physicality and technical ability to our back line as well as showing he can be a leader."

Newport County have signed former Barrow striker Offrande Zanzala on a one-year deal.
Zanzala, 24, spent the second half of 2021-22 on loan at Exeter, who won automatic promotion from League Two.
The Congolese striker arrives at Rodney Parade after cancelling his contract at Barrow earlier this month and becomes the Exiles' sixth summer signing.
"I'm really pleased to welcome Offrande to our club," said Newport boss James Rowberry.
"I've been speaking to him for the past week or two and I'm excited on how he can help the team and how we can develop him.
"We've fought off some really strong competition for his signature and I would like to thank Darren (Kelly, Sporting Director), Gavin (Foxall, chairman), and the board for their support in making Offrande a Newport County AFC player."
Rowberry - taking charge of his first pre-season at the club - has already secured the permanent additions of Sam Bowen, Declan Drysdale, Will Evans and Aaron Wildig.
Striker Chanka Zimba has also arrived on loan from Championship Cardiff, with Zanzala now strengthening forward options following the departures of Courtney Baker-Richardson, Alex Fisher, Padraig Amond, veteran Kevin Ellison and last year's League Two top scorer Dom Telford.

Newport County have signed Liverpool left-back Adam Lewis on loan.
The 22-year-old former England youth international will join the League Two club having spent last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Livingston.
Lewis has made one appearance for Liverpool's senior side, in an FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in February 2020.
The Anfield academy product becomes County's seventh summer signing.
The length of his loan deal to Newport has not been specified.
County manager James Rowberry told the club website: "I'm delighted to welcome Adam to the club and I'm excited to see how his qualities will improve us as a team.
"I have no doubt that his experience at higher levels, as well as his international pedigree, will be a huge help to our processes to take the club forward.
"I know our supporters will give Adam a very warm welcome when they get the chance to see him."
Merseyside-born Lewis has been with Liverpool since the age of five and captained the club's under-18 side, who were managed at the time by Steven Gerrard.
He had loan spells with French side Amiens and League One Plymouth Argyle before making 14 appearances at Livingston last term, with his time in Scotland affected by a foot injury.

Newport County have signed former Cardiff City striker Omar Bogle from rival League Two side Hartlepool United.
Bogle, 28, has agreed a two-year deal to join the Exiles for an undisclosed fee.
The move will see him link up with County boss James Rowberry, who worked with the forward at the Bluebirds.
"It's another exciting signing for us," Rowberry said after The Exiles completed their eighth summer signing.
"I would like to thank Gavin [Foxall, chairman] and Darren [Kelly, Sporting Director] for the work they have put into this."
Bogle leaves Pools just six months after signing a two-and-a-half year deal on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers.
He scored five goals in 20 appearances for Hartlepool - four of which came in his first eight games - as the Victoria Park side retained their EFL status following promotion from the National League.
He returns to south Wales having made 21 appearances for Cardiff after a £700,000 move from Wigan Athletic in 2017, working with Neil Warnock and coach Rowberry.
Bogle spent time on loan at Peterborough United, Birmingham City and ADO Den Haag having struggled to make an impact, before a permanent move to Charlton Athletic.
He will boost forward options at Rodney Parade with Newport having lost the services of League Two top scorer Dom Telford, who turned down a new contract to sign for Crawley Town.
Courtney Baker-Richardson, Kevin Ellison, Alex Fisher and Padraig Amond have all departed since last season, with former Barrow striker Offrande Zanzala and Chanka Zimba, on loan from Cardiff, signed as replacements.

Newport County have signed Bournemouth midfielder Nathan Moriah-Welsh on a season-long loan.
Moriah-Welsh, 20, has made two appearances for Bournemouth since joining the Cherries from Reading in 2018.
The London-born Guyana international, who can also play at full-back, becomes Newport's ninth signing of the summer.
"I'm really pleased that we can add another midfield player to our ranks," said Exiles manager James Rowberry.
"He brings energy athleticism and good ball-playing qualities to that department. I'd like to thank Bournemouth in their trust in allowing Nathan to come and join us."
Moriah-Welsh was an unused substitute on seven occasions in the Championship last season, when Bournemouth won promotion to the Premier League.
His two first-team outings were in the FA Cup earlier this year.

Newport County have signed West Ham United winger Thierry Nevers on a season-long loan.
Nevers signed for the Hammers in July 2021 from Reading on a three-year deal.
The 20-year-old has yet to make his senior West Ham debut but impressed in Premier League 2 last season, scoring seven goals in 17 games.
"I am delighted to welcome Thierry... he will provide a strong work ethic and huge energy on our attacking line," Newport manager James Rowberry said.
Newport have struggled so far this season, claiming one point from their opening four League Two games and sit second from bottom in the table.
After Tuesday night's 3-2 home loss to Salford City, the Exiles host 13th-placed Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
