Maloney sacked
#1
Just seen that Maloney was sacked by Hibs board this morning.

Personally think this is a poor decision at this time. Should have got the Summer transfer window to bring in his own players, get some of the injuries back and see how he does in the first 10 games next season. Hibs have put SDG in charge for the remainder of the season.

Problem at Hibs, Ron, is further up the management chain and the Board. Any money left from the Boyle transfer will go on compensation to Maloney and his team .........only just finished paying off Jack Ross. This is money that should have been going into the most important part of any football club........the players on the pitch.

It's the American way, ruthless in business and Kensell better watch his back!

Hibernian FC are certainly in a mess. Doh

Agreed.

I think its harsh. The guy was a rookie coach, facing massive injury problems and trying to impose a whole new system of play on a set of players that have frankly been letting us down for a while now. Lost our top striker and was given some project types and loans to try and make it work.

I mean if you bring in a young, progressive type coach you have to give him proper time, otherwise whats the point ?

Looks to me like a lot of the players weren't happy. So it's back to square one. We are a shambles on and off the park.

Good riddance! I'll bet my scathing letter to Hibs CEO (copied to Ron Gordon), sent early last week, was not the only one that he received and most Hibs fans that I know, incl family members, didn't have a good word to say about Maloney, but nothing against him personally, shouldn't have been appointed in the first place by Kensell (HE'D BETTER WATCH HIS BACK - IT WAS THE WRONG DECISION!!!! Thumb down) - Hibs version of Aberdeen's Stephen Glass IMO, both managers "talking a good game"!!! The "project" (is that word corporate speak????) failed, the match stats didn't lie!!! Ron Gordon more or less confirmed that in his formal statement. Also a lotta Hibs people forgetting the significance of Martin Boyle's absence, his transfer endorsed by Maloney, and the club's poor efforts to mitigate such massive damage to Hibs first team prospects - I rammed that fact down Kensell's throat in my letter and I know for a fact there are other shareholders who have gone through a similar critical exercise!! The thousands of Hibs fans who applauded the sterling efforts of the Hibs players at Hampden on Saturday didn't applaud Maloney at all. I personally hope Hibs make a quick move for Malky Mackay although that move could be unpopular with some people. Neil Lennon would be my next choice although again contentious to some people. The end goal is common to both of us and all Hibs fans - a buoyant and successful Hibs team that needs to be nurtured. There is a good nucleus of players in the current Hibs squad and we learnt a lot from the game at Hampden. This group needs to be strengthened and managed in the proper way with a style of playing that is comfortable for all the players. We are not too far away from having a really good team! Hopefully Hibs board and Ron Gordon will choose wisely this time and also have a rethink re the way they "go about their business". Ron Gordon had no choice to act as quickly as possible in the face of mounting criticism and he has done it!! So (Sir) David Gray in interim charge again - deja vu eh!! Lastly, isn't it amazing how opinions differ re issues like this one eh!! Anyway, the deed is done and I'm hoping for a new era, a really positive one where lessons have been learned and Hibs push on to a far higher status than the one we are currently in.
PS: I just received a text that read in this way - "Yasssssss, Maloney gone!! The CEO should go too". That says it all where many Hibs people have lost patience and had enough!!

Like some, but obviously not all, I'm really disappointed in this decision. We are just going round in circles with no progression. While this criticism could apply to Maloney, why appoint a young manager and give him no time to get on with the job. He hasn't taken us backwards because we were there already. Lack of goals has been our biggest problem for some time and that is down to the players. Boyle is a big miss admittedly but we still had the same problem when he was here, so selling him was not the downfall of Hibs FC.

Ron Gordon is still the man with the money, but he doesn't seem to want to spend it on the team. So we could easily be looking for another new manager before the end of the year.

I'm not gonna go through my previous criticism months ago re appointing young managers with no club experience/grounding and footie clubs trying to flog this wonderful new way of "breaking the mould" and challenging at the top flight of Scottish footie. I said it disnae work, been tried before, leave it at that!
IMO the situation is not as negative as being described. I wanna see strong leadership returned to the club. I don't like Ben Kensell, never fancied him from the beginning and he'd be gone if I was in Gordon's position. That move has been suggested in my scathing letter btw. The appointment of a strong, forward-thinking manager, a good leader, is first and foremost in my mind. Then we'll see how team rebuilding progresses together with the availability of funds. Note Ron Gordon also still actively pursuing other ways of pulling in significant revenue to help in the club's improvement towards a higher standard of footie team and more applicable to our decent status in Scottish footie. Money is indeed the "key" to any kinda real success. Just look at the spending of the big two in Glasgow to really appreciate this huge advantage. However, I'd also caution that Rangers business model of high debt and owing huge amounts of money is not what I'm referring to at all.

If they want to give it to SDG then why not just do it earlier on ? It just seems like the club has no vision or ambition. God knows who will want the gig now.

I get that his form as manager was poor but there was clearly mitigating factors there. I reckon certain players have not been doing their jobs and have let us down for a start off. This kind of pish has been going on since Lennons "boy band" comments back in the day and points to something in our training set up and culture where we are going wrong.

And you know what ??? If it wasn't really working out what would have happened if gordon hadn't made that wonder save at the weekend and we'd levelled and gone on to win the tie ?? What then ?

I wouldn't excuse caldwells role in all this either, the guy is a dumbass. I wouldn't rely on him to coach jackshit.

You must recall what Maloney said in his pre-match/semi comments - we're well prepared for this one blah, blah, blah!! So much for prep in that 1st half 30 mins of casualness, caution and mistakes. Also the "leak" of his starting line up on Friday night was an absolute embarrassment preceding such an important match for the club!!! Thumb down And his reluctance to take off yellow-carded Newell, esp with Beaton around, was a fatal error!! Logic prevails in the second half esp after such an early yellow card - didn't do it and no knowledge of the history of this fixture and red cards being issued, an idiot!!!
I've never mentioned Caldwell in this debate and just wanna say for the record "I'm delighted that he's oot the door"!!! As well as him being useless as a coach, I was never enamoured to him after his cutting comments against Hibs years ago when he left the club to go to Celtic - never forgotten and I was dismayed to see him anywhere near any job at ER Stadium. Another poor judgement call by Maloney IMO!!!
Also there is a lotta "pals of pals" stuff in this story that doesn't impress me one jot. That applies to the position of Kensell as well!! Bring back Leeann - a "safe pair of hands" compared with Kensell's dismal performance in a such a short period.

I forgot to add the fact I sent my scathing letter of complaint to HFC/Kensell a week ago, well before the Hampden fixture. In this four page letter, I predicted fairly accurately how events would unfold on Saturday - it wasn't that difficult to see what was gonna happen although I genuinely hoped I would be "way off the mark" esp when still intending to support the club in Glasgow anyway. I've not had a reply from Ben Kensell yet, but note one of my four demands/suggestions to him and Ron Gordon, the first one, was an official apology to all Hibs fans and ST holders after all the shit materialises as predicted, and the "talk, talk, talk" continues as usual - "taking the fans for granted" comes to mind!! The rest is history and I'm sure some kinda reply will be "dropping through my letterbox" at some point after Ron Gordon's official admission of the massive failure that I complained about in my letter. IT DIDNAE WORK!!!!!!!!!

0762,
You should apply for the managers job simply because you're one of the few who know what's wrong at the club.We couldn't ask for a better person to put things right

Ha ha ha! Thanks for the compliment 1Wattie! Nice one! However, I'm in my 70s and my missus would be filing for a divorce if I attempted to do such a thing to stress myself out. I can remember quite a long time ago I said to my wife and my youngest son that I'd buy out Hibs if I was ever super jammy enough to win the huge Euromillions jackpot and then we'd see what other competing footie clubs' fans faces were like when the "money factor" takes effect BIG TIME, appointed people really know what they are meant to be doing footie wise, and Hibs really excel to make headline news. However, the reality would be another likely divorce if I attempted to do that too ha ha ha Laugh That's women for you - more concerned re one's good health and nae stress lol!
