Why hasn’t he gone yet? I’ll chip in a fiver for his compensation.

West Brom will wait until tomorrow so it’s bigger news. They don’t want to make such a big decision and have it ignored due to the transfer window deadline ?

Snodgrass out by mutual consent. 1 less midfielder.

I thought Snodgrass might be an asset for Val's replacement.

(I'm working on the proviso that Val will get sacked at some point. I'm not actually sure how he survived the weekend TBH).

But obviously the powers that be have decided that a player who puts his foot on the ball and tries to play no longer fits the club's DNA.

Hearing that Val is gone but they are trying to agree compensation, he wants all up front and WBA want to pay in instalments. One option being considered is to put him on gardening leave for who knows how long. Now heard the Mowbray rumour from two more sources but again not sure if it’s just fans wishing it to happen.

I’d be delighted if Mowbray returned; the football in the Championship was brilliant and I’m sure he’s now a lot wiser since our year in the Prem. however, I suspect such rumours are complete bo\\ocks

The issue over Snodgrass is infuriating and, for me, worse than the spat with Johnstone. With respect to the latter, we have more than adequate short and long term replacements but, as you say Slick, we have no-one in midfield with the ability to create openings as Snodgrass could. Our midfield is full of similar players as is our forward line, with the exception of Andy Carroll/Daryl Dike.

Right now, we must be one of the easiest teams in the division to play against

Mowbray's canny enough to foresee the probs he would get with our useless Board of Directors.
Why would he come back here?
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with

It's such a bizarre decision, even more so given the murmurings about Ismael's imminent sacking continue to rumble on.

Common sense would be to give the new head coach as many possible options to choose from now the window has closed.

That's not even considering his playing ability. As you say, he's a player who has a track record of creating and scoring at this level. Plus a rare experienced head in our squad.

I can only think he's done something really bad behind the scenes. Chinned someone on a long term contract in training perhaps? Bedded Mozza's Mrs? Spit at Ismael? I'm plucking these from thin air, but this makes no sense at all from a footballing point of view.

I'm a bit torn about the Mowbray link.

Part of me thinks returning to old hunting grounds rarely works. It's a bit like getting back with an Ex Mrs, never really returns to how it once was...

At the same time, the football under Mowbray was the best I've seen in my lifetime. I loved how we played every game to win, home or away. I loved the fact we had the balls to go to places like Old Trafford and control the tempo of the game. And while he got undone in the Prem, things have evolved since then. We are able to be more competitive in terms of acquisitions and salaries and as Steve pointed out, Mowbray is a much more experienced coach now too.

And with that in mind, I'd be thrilled to see him return.

Not sure what the pull would be for Mowbray though? We don't have many players who fit his style or Dan Ashworth to recruit good talent for cheap, like in his first tenure. In addition, we seem to be more or less brassic, not even being able to get a loanee in during January. We're going to lose our most valuable asset for free in the summer too. The only pull I can think is that we might be able to pay him a slightly higher salary given we're still receiving parachute payments.
