Nothing for Barry.

And while the system stinks, this one is down to our incompetence

No I disagree, if Barcelona take one of our kids and sell him a few weeks later the least they could do is give us a bit. The game is corrupt. Nothing unusual we get a rubbish price for Pereira with a nice day cheque in a brown envelope for China, Hegazi is sold on the cheap and then refuse to pay anyway. Our kids waltz off to the seal sanctuary. It's just dog eat dog. A sad world football has turned into.
No wonder so many people have fallen out of love with the game.

But the trouble is, DD, that Barcelona don't have to, there is no requirement to do so. Morally, well maybe but when did morals ever enter the game in recent years. I totally agree with your view of corruption, as I said I think the system and the game stinks. However, as poor as Barcelona's behaviour has been, we can't escape the fact that we screwed this up. If we had properly managed the administration of his contract, Barcelona would have been forced to pay up. For me. the issue is not the lost revenue - its pretty small beer ( I think Hegazi's is likely to be more significant) - but rather its the fact that the whole process/system/regulations governing the departure of very young players from the clubs that have developed and nurtured them is totally skewed towards those clubs with money, influence and power. Let's face it, in the overall grand scheme, we don't really count.

They are really having a go now, £900,000 for Ferguson!!!! How is that possible Palace offered £11 mil for him just 6 months before, we turned down offers for him since then from Palace for more than that. They must be dancing round the office at Selhurst Park.

I understand the outrage on this one but I hope you’re wrong, BB, I wouldn’t want that for any player, let alone one so young as Ferguson. This is not his fault.

What is concerning is the light it seems to be shining into the club’s management and a seeming lack of competence. It would seem we had the opportunity to take a greater figure than this for Ferguson (c. £4million) which was much reduced from the original transfer fee but was a guaranteed sum. We decided to take this to a tribunal, anticipating it would agree with our evaluation and ignoring the fact it may not. It didn’t, we took that risk and completely failed.

Add this episode to the Louie Barry fiasco and we don’t appear to be much cop at commercial management unless it’s flogging merchandise in the club shop. No-one will own up to what we received for Pereira but it’s patently obvious it was well under our stated evaluation of the player, and do any of us have any confidence we’ll get a good result out of the Heghazi transfer? Me neither. Meanwhile we lose young players out of the academy in disturbing numbers, seemingly unable to manage expectations or contracts.

Still, on the bright side, the football’s exciting Dodgy

Bit of a tongue in cheek post - I don't wish the lad any bad luck at all. He has probably suffered enough already.
