Rumours of Josh Maja. He was on loan at Fulham last season and said to be going to Forest but fell through - probably heard how bad they are. Anyone else heard this?

Damp squib of a window. Disappointing that we've not spent a penny after sanctioning the Pereira sale.
I feel we're desperately short in numerous positions; only 1 senior right back, 3 senior centre mids, 2 senior strikers - one of which is Ken Zohore. Just hope we don't have any injuries.
If we do manage to get promoted this season, I'll hail the manager as a genius. For me, this squad is quite inferior to the squads that both Bilic and Darren Moore had in our previous campaigns. But at least the players look like they care this time, so maybe that spirit will guide us through.

With sales and savings in wages, we have a surplus of £50 million. Assuming £2 mil for Val and £8 mil on wages for new loans and signings.
This leaves £40 mil in the bank.
Come the new year window. I guarantee we will not have a single penny left.
Flex down and running costs = £70 mil
parachute money + STH gates, TV, etc = £70 mil
This still leaves the £40 mil - if it disappears we know where.

I'm sure we'd all agree with your disappointment, Slick, regarding the lack of reinvestment of the incoming money, particularly when it seems to have left us a tad short in a couple of positions.
Strangely though, I'm still very upbeat about our chances this year! I think we've got a real gem in VI, and the spirit he'll continue to build will be more precious to us than a couple of mid price signings.
I know there IS a 'within reason' clause here but didn't I read somewhere that VI prefers a small squad?
Even if we can't sustain our impressive start, I'll be satisfied if I can see that (for a bloody change) ALL of our players actually care!

I understand what you are saying but I am of the view that it is not about next season and this is a problem we go through promotion after promotion and never seem to learn the lesson. We need to be thinking of the squad for the Prem now, think of it this way, if we were to take our current squad to the Prem, how many players would we need to replace to stand any chance of survival and where would we get the money from if it all had to be laid out in one year? Of course we would still need to buy players when/if we got promoted, but a bit of well thought out ground work and little investment now, would make that process a lot easier, not to mention players would be a lot cheaper now, than when we are a Prem team again and we would have had the chance to properly evaluate the players suitability for the Prem rather than hope for the best.

Noticed O'Shea went off injured for Republic yesterday. Hopefully nothing serious, or another dent to our paper thin squad.
