Match Thread - Bolton Wanderers
To be fair I wouldn't expect anything else from him or any other manager. Takes a very brave manager to blame himself for a defeat. Thing that also bugs me is why the journalists posing the questions don't point some of these things out and ask the pointed questions in the first place???

Palmer - 6 - kept his flank tight
Lees - 6 - a couple of lapses
Loovens - 6 - two misplaced headers
Dielna - 5 - mistake for second goal
Maguire - 6 - good second half, won & scored penalty
Semedo - 6 - struggled first half, better second half
Lee - 5 - never in game, at fault for first goal, took yellow card for team
Maghoma - 7 - great second half, took yellow card for team
Nuhui - 4 - hit bar but otherwise poor
May - 4 - made runs, robbed of goal by poor linesman decision

Agree with these, can't rate subs because I left on 80th min. It was rather cold.

What I will add is, does Hutch ACTUALLY want to play football? Ionly ask because when he plays he either throws himself about getting injured or throws himself about and gets sent off Laugh

From memory, Baker was only on for the last ten minutes & didn't do anything sensational.

Baker came on in the 81st minute with Helan coming on in the 72nd. I cannot understnd why Helan has been dropped to the bench the last two games, he had become one of our more consistent players in recent weeks. I understand resting a player for a game here and there but why 2 in a row??

Helan had personal issues back in france the week running up to the forest game and only got back the day before. Maghoma played well vs forest and so kept his spot for Bolton.
I'd think about putting Helan back at LB, dropping Dielna back to bench and playing Maguire and Maghoma in the 4312 formation we seem to be adopting.

Oh and playing May up top rather than ON THE FLUCKING WING!!!Doh

Helan had been playing well and was left out at Forest because of his personal issues. He did ok when he came on but the starting eleven won the match so SG reasoned that he stick with them. He came on again on Saturday & was poor. I almost feel the substitutions stopped us getting something from the match.

Although only listening, I was gobsmacked when he took Maghoma off. Yes he was poor, along with a few others, in the first half but he seemed to be running the show in the 2nd. And yes, we lost all our momentum after the subs came on.
and complicated

yep agree, Maguire should have come off with May and Helan & Lavery should have come on. The 2 subs SG did make were defensive when we should have been putting on pressure. Hutch wouldn't be suspended either

I don't think the subs were particularly negative, Helan has been one of our key players when attacking recently, but for its the fact that he changed things at half time to let Maghoma play behind the front two and according to what has been said both on here and on the commentary it was working and causing Noblot problems!! Once he made the changes we went back to the 442 formation that hadn't worked in the first half rther than sticking to his changes!! SG is a 442 guy, we all know that, and to a degree it has worked hence our position in the table, but he is so stubborn and rigid that he seems to get the jitters when we change formation and quickly reverts back to it. I have no problem with 442, but I have a huge problem with it being the only way we play!!!!

We have got away with 442 this season because so many other teams have used 442 against us. we have struggled against teams that have used 352 or 451. In fact we have only beaten Wigan of sides playing three in CM & that was because they were awful.
