So it would appear, yet again, a stolen talent, with eyes and egos bigger than their talent, comes crashing down to earth.
Our academy players should watch and learn ......
Albion could be in for a surprise windfall as Manchester city look to sell Morgan Rogers to Crystal Palace.
In 2019 Morgan was on the verge of regular first team football with us, Man City came calling, off he pops, city reserves, one season on loan at Lincoln. Now looking like he may go to Palace, a club similar in size to us without the history, tradition or previous success. Could have just stayed with us, the club that nurtured him.
How many others, Izzy Brown, Chelsea ..... Barely played ... Where is he now
Memory lapse but the lad that went to Barcelona for 5 minutes 27 seconds before going to the seals.
Saido ... On verge of england, not quite academy but head turned, career to sh@@e, now realised the mistake he made wants to come home.
Academy players leaving good, honest clubs to go to the top six for status and money are just ruining their futures. Short term gain years of pain.

Add to that list Tim Iroegbunam who has rejected a contract and will be signing for Villa. If it wasn’t for the fact that we must have an Academy to meet EPL requirements, you could be forgiven for thinking “why bother”. I wonder if Villa has thought about starting one?

Don't these kids have parents who care??!
It seems that they all have agents, even at this age, and that's the only advice that's listened to.
The whole set up is ridiculous

Don't understand that comment!!
If it's a requirement of the EPL (Premier league?) to have an academy; why us who are now in the Championship and presumably no longer subject to their rules, AND why not Villa who are in that top money bags league? and presumably are!!
What am I missing here??

Silver, unfortunately academies takes years of running and planning. You can not just switch it on and switch it off. If we wish to be in the greed league next year we need an academy, this year we may not require one, but ..... Next year???
The seals have an academy, it was a poor relation compared to ours, they now have most of our academy staff and players which they poached.
The issue is only partially to do with agents and greed. The bigger issue in my eyes is .... What are our board doing to make people (both staff and players) feel they have no future of prospects at our club, causing them to search for money and success elsewhere.
How many academy players have had a long term future with our first team. How much has the board invested in youth and senior players to build a successful club. Last silverware .... 53 years ago, so many could have been's, lost semi finals since, how much investment when we got promoted, even when we had our extended stay in the greed league, no investment, no ambition, remember Pulis and co. Do the bare minimum, don't risk the clubs finances and long term future.
A philosophy that gets you only one place .... and we're back in it.
Can't see any silverware coming home anytime soon.

I was being facetious, Silverbaggie They do have an Academy, it’s just that it seems easier for them to poach the players from ours.

Snooty, you can say that about all transfers, especially with the bosman rule, we have had many players poached over the years, usually with a transfer fee.
The difference here is when a club picks up a raw talent 7 or 8 year old, trains them, educates them, turning that raw talent into a footballer for 8 years, only for a top six club, overseas club or Scottish club to turn their heads when they reach 16, poach them away before their parent club can get them signed to a contract and the academy club get next to nothing for their investment.
I know your message is tongue in cheek but this affects you guys as well as us.
No protection for academies, why should clubs like ours invest millions in these kids. Barcelona stole Barrie, they haven't paid our miserly 300k or so compensation, then within six months sold him on to villa.
Had he gone the direct route, not this manufactured fee dodging route, we would have received 6+ million and a sell on clause.
Snooty, Was Grant a product of your academy?

Yes it was tongue in cheek and no, we poached him from Charlton when we were in the Prem.
We know all about the bigger clubs poaching though. That's one of the reasons we scaled our academy back to the bare bones.

Greed has now replaced loyalty.
Tbh our academy has not made us millions or produced any superstars.
Sure it's given endless kids a chance / opportunity to be professionals, but it's more then that.
It's the creating of a WBA community that's the key IMO.
As for Grant - If anyone was robbed it was us.
