Well there's a question. Personally I blame Boris Johnson for everything, but I'm being hard pushed to find an excuse to blame him for this. Phil blames covid for it and I blame Johnson for covid, but that's as close as I can get.
So it will have to be Phil. The lad's minted and he bought himself a football club. Just like Rubery before him, he's failed to invest properly. I know he has his reasons for it, but his mismanagement of the situation has left us with a club he can't attract players to. The only players we can attract now are not Championship class. Look at the signings we have made in January. It's pathetic really. Even the players we missed out on weren't Championship quality. I blame Dean as well for selling to this pillock in the first place. He wanted to keep it in the family, so to speak, by selling to another Town fan, but with hindsight, maybe he would've been better flogging to those foreign investors (if they ever did really exist). There aren't any investors lurking now, are there? I can't blame Carlos. He's doing his best with what he's been given and when we had a fully fit, well mainly fit squad, we were doing alright. But I think he may be gone by the end of the week if we don't get anything from Middlesbrough. Phil's decision to get rid of the Cowley's and replace him with an untried under 23 coach was a barmy decision and I said it at the time and I still believe that. He wanted somebody to coach the team, but not be a manager. Danny wanted it all. Phil wasn't having it. Prick! Who's to blame? Phil Hodgkinson. ![]()

All of the above for me.
Some players aren't committed enough, good enough or performing near to their level. Carlos has to understand that there's time to play certain systems. Today hogg at rb? Have a word. Today, with the injuries needed Crichlow as a lb, albeit not massively attacking but oh well, or a back 3 with pipa and lob at wing back, vallejo or Crichlow as the 3rd cb or even Stearman seeing as he's on the bench. He went back to square pegs round holes, when he had the chance to put round pegs in or at least a square with rounded edges. Dean, need we say, he's hamstrung this club with calling in debts that were originally meant to be written off, he's gone back almost on every word he's ever said to us, and he selected his successor. A man without the knowledge or financial means to be adequate. Especially when there was some more suited individuals/groups interested, but the deal may not have seen Dean reimbursed Phil, liar, fraud, charlatan, I've heard all mentioned. He's got very little credit with the town faithful, has lied a few times to us, sends messages saying one thing, proceeds to do the opposite. It's hard to see him in charge, he's not got the means, he was out of his depth at Southport and had trouble with their fans, what evidence was there of him being suited for a recently relegated Premier league club? People ask who would want a club like this especially in the current climate, its true, not many, but for the right price, I'm sure there are people wanting to invest or own clubs from abroad, its about finding the right individual/consortium to take the club forward properly

I think the majority of the blame lies with Phil but there is a percentage applied to Dean and Carlos, too. Whilst I don't blame Dean for stepping back due to illness, he must have had people he could put in charge. Carlos has been unbending and there does appear to be some cause to question his training methods given the injuries mounting up. I find myself agreeing with Matt Glennon which is new territory for me. I don't so much blame the players because I do see some effort and they do appear to be square pegs in round holes. Is that their fault?

The Empire started to crumble under Dean Hoyle, yes he got ill and that left us with nobody to run the club. Now Dean can’t be blamed for getting ill but he can be blamed for having a weak board. Sean Jarvis did his best but at the end of the day he was just a glorified salesman. Ann Hough, admin and then nobody. If Dean was the captain of the ship then we had no vice captain to step up when needed.
Dean then chose to sell to Phil. Why did he choose Phil? Well it would seem he would offer Dean the best deal to get his money back, money that Dean had already written off and never expected to see again. He’s shafted the club good and proper and before anyone says that’s a knee jerk reaction to what’s going on now that opinion was expressed back in 2019 at home game with my mate who I’ve been watching Town with since arriving at the new stadium. It was also his opinion. As much as I’d like to blame Dean for everything Phil has to stand up and take the blame in equal measure. He stood in front of a crowd at the odeon being all billy big bollocks, where’s all the tough questions being a smart arse. Well Phil questions are being fired at you from all over the place right now. You’ve done a 180 on the club finances and are now crying the poor tale. 1. We didn’t take the FA cup seriously, missing out on possible price/tv money 2. The club turned down Shirt sponsorship because it didn’t meet your valuation only for us now to offer a glorified meat raffle for it. 3. We are that skint you fired the coach you paid big money to get last season, during the pandemic as well. Then half the back room staff followed them out the door.

All I'll say is be careful what you wish for with foreign owners offering even more Billy-Big-Bollox-big-times ahead.
In a word - Wigan. When Fosun came in at Wolves they spent £25m on players their agent had suggested in the first window and were 4th bottom of the Championship at Christmas and shitting themselves. DH in comparison was putting around £5m per year in on average. It took a few managers and a lot more brass on players than we could dream of before they got the bloke they've got now as coach and the mid-table mediocrity, occasional sniff at top 6 places in the Prima Donna League. Don't forget, we got there before they did. No we're not gonna get back there with Phil, but don't rush into the arms of the first bloke from China, Thailand, Russia or America wanting to launder some funny money either. There's a helluva difference between a known multinational enterprise like Fosun and the joker that was allowed to take over at Wigan. As far as I'm concerned for the vote, whether I vote for all of 'em or none of 'em, it makes no overall difference to the total. They are all responsible in their own way for the mess they've all landed us in, though as I tee'd up on another thread and Wakey smacked into the net, we've got a ridiculous amount of often self inflicted injuries in a squad that's thin on quality to begin with.
A guide to cask ale.

I read what Mr chicky said int newsrag Well ont tinterwebs and I can't say I overly disagree. The club paying its overheads by way of sponsorships ect with minor investment is probably the best way for any club regardless of level. Allowing for player sales to be reinvested into the playing squad at the time or near future after aswell as the owner using his actual investment in that department.
I'm sure fans would accept that and I hope the club stop making hollow promises and just allow the proof to be in the pudding. Shite players, shite performances equals poor investments. Good players, good performances equals good investments

The problem being how are they going to raise all this money.
TV money is the biggest income for Town, In a normal Championship season the club gets £2.3m Basic Payment £4.5m Solidarity Payment £100k for every televised home game unless a) its on a Sunday where the figure rises to £120k b) it's on a Thursday where the figure rises to £140k £20k for every away game we are televised. We'd be lucky to raise £8m in good season. Matchday income around the £4m mark(promotion season) so at best we're looking at £12m with commercial revenue making up the rest. This will have to increase from £2.3m in the promotion season to somewhere around £6/7/8m+ to service the wage bill |
