Loan player

Excuse my being naive, but does signing a loan player mean we pay all their wages that was agreed by the loaning club they'd pay him, or can that be changed up or down?

Also would we need to pay a loan fee?

I think each deal is different. Usually we would pay the player's salary in full but if he's a particularly high earner and his club wants him off the wage bill because of that, there may be an agreement to split the salary between us and the loaning club. As regards a loan fee, I think that's a relatively recent development - remember we were outbid by Everton in our attempt to get Lukaku on loan for a second season...and ended up with Victor Anichebe. Not all loan deals involve a loan fee but I guess the loaning club sees it as an opportunity to make some money, a bit like a mini transfer fee.

Thanks Steve, good answer.
Another question. If we agree a loan player for a second term, would we have to pay the loan fee again - I assume so? Or would this be reduced?
