Only Hibs could not taking Ross County seriously.

I'm really not seeing it with the likes of Wright and Murphy so far.

Yep Jim! I concur with that view and briefly commented similarly in a previous thread! Eg re Wright's contribution at Ibronx, I wasn't that impressed particularly in the first half on Hibs right - didn't think he did enough and I regarded him as the "fly on the ointment" in a role to suppress Rangers incursions on our right. It improved a tad in the second half but it wasn't enough. The big question to ask - "Is there a decent player of a Hibs standard inside that body"? I don't think so to cover the needs of a full footie season. The same goes for Murphy. I said before that Hibs are two or three players away from having a very good team but, as previously intimated, I still have grave reservations re Jack Ross leading this group of players in the long term.

I think it's also worth commenting that I tend to forget that Hibs are playing a lotta matches in a short period and that can certainly "catch up" with players' energy levels and commitment unless a footie club has a healthy squad of players to call on and can be rotated as much as poss. I'd suggest it is even tougher after a match v Rangers or Celtic where exertions were higher than normal - not easy!

Thats a very good point, and why I'm prepared to chalk this one off to a 'bad day at the office'.

Hopefully we get a good, positive reaction at the weekend.

The point about our bench is very valid. Not many options there last night to drastically change things. Still believe Gogic should have come on to allow Newell to be pushed further forward which, I feel, is his best position.

Yet again we seem to get players in who spend more time on the injury list than on the team sheet, eg: Magennis, Murphy...

Never really hold with the tiredness argument as all teams are playing a lot of games and teams like Ross have all the travel time problems associated with getting to games..........doubt they flew down on Tuesday for a night at the Hilton before preparing for the game. Wink They have also have played an ugly in the last 2 games and on Saturday in very poor conditions played 60 minutes with 10 men and 30 with 9 men.

However on Saturday Livi should have an advantage since their game on Wednesday was called off.

Well Jack Ross's post match comments had a "resigned feel" about it TBF. And he said he thought Hibs had "no spark" about them, all huff n puff stuff, and just looked happy to move on to the next fixture. So logically one has to relate that to a legitimate reason why they suddenly played out such a flat performance v a team that was at the foot of the Scot Prem for good reason. Also note John Hughes was forced to change 2 x suspended players, he altered various positions due to injury and for tactical reasons. So he didn't have the same team as fielded in his last two fixtures. IMO I thought Hibs "put in a big shift" at Ibronx to hold Rangers and, in fact, pushed them back in the last quarter of that match in shit conditions and, on another day, may well have attained a good result. Note Jack Ross didn't really freshen up that Hibs team significantly either in order to just give certain players a rest.

County have changed manager recently and have clearly got a bit of a boost from that, it often happens. Players are working harder to impress and feel a bit freed up. Thought they played well.

That was a shocking performance though, that midfield does not do enough for me when we don't have the ball. Way too lacking in pace and creativity.

We could really use a couple of new faces in January. Magennis is nowhere near as good as the boy Campbell at Motherwell, think we made a mistake there.

Have to agree to disagree on this.

Ross County don't have a massive squad and from the financial point of view, should be worse than ours so they deserve even more credit because as you say , Yogi had to make several changes due to injury and suspensioins. Many of those players played both last Saturday and against Celtic. Well done to them.

Jack Ross on these thoughts should have changed it to give more of our players a rest........tactically not very bright then?

Read my previous threads re Jack Ross please!! Also watch for Ross Co's next few results v other opponents and gauge how good they actually are or how bad Hibs actually were last night.
As an aside, I watch a lotta Aston Villa's matches on Sky and BT Sport and like to see how John McGinn plays in their games. He picked up the MOTM award in their last game v Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the match commentator said he was a "bulldozer in Villa's midfield" and looks like he'd be ready to play another game tomorrow. Imagine adding him to Hibs midfield now - a Hibs midfield weakness that is glaring??? However, we sold him for lotsa money and that is part of the prob whether we like it or not - said it before that Hibs are a selling club that sells its top players and eventually go backwards after some kinda relative success. Then another manager picks up a new challenge and the team evolves through time and hopefully we find great new talent that will grace a Hibs jersey and the Hibs team will improve as well. Btw I acknowledge McGinn left the club to get away from such a poor footie league in Scotland and improve on a much higher stage in the English Premiership. Indeed we could well pick up poss £5M plus if John eventually transfers to a bigger club as I gather he is being monitored by a number of interested "big boys". My main point is that we can complain and criticise how Hibs perform in matches like this one but ultimately that is the way Hibs operate as a footie club. The interest from our point of view is just observing if Hibs can progress to a good level and, at the moment, they are in the top half of the Scot Prem in 4th place - better than last season. But we know there are some problem areas that need to be redressed. We'll discover how proactive Ron Gordon is in that regard. Ideally in Jan I'd like to see the manager shift certain players out and "free up wages" plus transfer in two or three players who could make a difference eg what is Jason Cummings doing these days?? Try to change the areas that are worth "tweaking".
