Didn't see any of the game today.......my take is that it's a HUGE 3 points gained, no matter how.
Interesting point made by the Owl - scoring from an indirect free kick given inside the box DOES seem a rarity, to say the least! Wonder whether the MOTD experts will pick up that point in our 2 mins of cover? Whistle

Glad to hear that Mozza has confounded the critics yet again and had a good game; always rated him and although he's rarely been played in his favoured (and more effective) role just behind the striker(s), he always puts a real shift in Thumb up

If we can pick up these points in the transitional stage of our development - as it'll still take probably a month to get the players completely Pulisified - that'll be a huge achievement in this league.

Very happy - no, RELIEVED - tonight!! Big Grin Big Grin

Was back up today for my first league match since the mini exodus after the
Newcastle game. I must say, the atmosphere was poor in the Brummie considering
it was Pulis' first league game.

Definitely a more solid performance and deserved win.

It's hard to tell if we looked more solid because of Pulis drilling the players or
simply because Hull lacked quality (and strikers) going forward. Probably a little
bit of both.

Yacob seemed to make a big difference sitting and covering, particularly because
Hull had 6-7 midfield players after the strikers went off injured and Yacob protected
the space on the edge of the box. I just wish he'd be a bit more composed after
getting booked, I thought he continued to leave a bit on players a few times after
picking up his yellow today and was walking a tight rope.

One thing today showed is that Saido must stay.

If Pulis wants to play 4-4-2, we need to be in the market for a striker to play
WITH him. Because frankly, there's little goal threat coming from elsewhere.

Ideye looked poor in his first few games, but goes from terrible to worse. His
movement looks decent but that is where the positives end. Doesn't look pacy,
doesn't challenge, doesn't even protect the ball with his body despite being a
big lad. On the ball he looks awkward, which showed with his lack of conviction
when clean through.

I really don't think we have the time to persist with him at all and Anichebe
didn't look much better when coming on. I'd really like to see us grab someone
someone with a proven track record to play alongside Saido and keep us up
this year. If Saido is to be sold, it should be in the summer when we have the
time to invest in the squad properly.

With the players we have, I'd prefer to see Sess up top with Saido and Varela
out wide. At least then we'd have an extra player providing a threat and I think
Sess plays much better football centrally.

Good start for Pulis, hopefully we can keep up the momentum with a couple of
tough fixtures coming.

First game since Villa for me and I'm fairly happy overall cos we won.

Does anyone if Varela was injured or not picked?

Foster was solid from crosses, Mcauley and Baird were also both fine (I'd still rather see Pocognoli though). Lescott was very good and I see that Wisdom has managed to split opinion again. I thought he defended well most the time and he has quite tidy feet on the ball, he goes forward a decent amount aswell. Some around me agreed that Wisdom had a good game.

Morrison and Yacob were very good in central midfield.

Sess and Brunt both had some good moments and passes but were a bit too quiet overall.

Berahino looked very good for me but was maybe a bit too deep sometimes. Hull put him under a lot of pressure when he got the ball but his control is class and he has great strength for his size. I was glad he scored after some disappointing shots in the first half.

Ideye tried and brought the midfield into play a bit but he can't do much in the air or in front of goal (just form imo) and the rest of his game isn't good enough to make up for it. Anichebe's strength was very useful to close out the game and if it's a choice between him and Ideye, I'd go with Big Vic all day long.

We should have created more in the second half (lack of width and players on the wrong side/too one-footed) but we kept Hull quiet (mainly due to all their injuries).

I thought our crowd was decent and definitely improved even if we're not selling out yet.

Also this is meant to be the 1st time in premier league history that the bottom 4 teams all on on one weekend.

3pts separate 8 teams - so game on. It look as if its going be a hell of a scrap unless 1 or 2 teams hits a winning streak.

As for today, we were lucky, and I'm chuffed we won, however having seen the goal in slow-mo, what a wimp that Hull player was to lift his leg and let Berahino's shot go thru him >>>> so your fired.

I must be in the minority but I thought there were signs of Saido and Ideye forging a decent partnership today. Saido obviously played that lovely flick through to Bobby for his miss, but on the other hand Bobby gave Saido a couple of nice little layoffs for his shots outside the box. It looks as though TP will be going down the 442 route, in which case I would be happy to see that partnership continue to develop. Vic is more of a super-sub anyway and can't start the majority of games through injury. Only other option atm is Samaras, who I think could do a job as a hold up man for Saido and Sess to play off.

G-Mac showed why he is so much better than Dawson...can head a ball and distribute.
Wisdom-looked solid and composed
Baird- Did the easy things well and although unspectacular no mistakes
Lescott-lack of pace but reads the game well but needs to distribute the ball quicker
Looks a solid back 4 that can only get better under TP.
